Clio RS MK3 197 Performance Figures!

Believe me, the driving position is so so much better than the 172, I sat in one last week in Geneva, and I was well impressed.

Why not upgrade?? Because its not as quick?? 95% of the people who frequent this board will never take there car any where near a track and lets face it thats where you only get the full benefits of performance. TBH if i had the 182 that did 0-60 in 6,5 and the new one that did it in 6,9 but had a driving position that wasn't like sitting on top of a bar stool, and a sexier interior making it a nicer place to spend time, then sure i'll take the new one please. Does everyone forget that as good as car as the 182 /172 is its still let down by one of the naffest driving positions ever, I did 30,000 a year in my 172 you feel it when u do that mileage.

lets be honest, no one on this board can have a go at its performance unless yr gonna go on a track, otherwise yr just a traffic light warrior, living yr life a quater mile at a time.

Why not upgrade?

A, I dont think it will be as quick
B, I dont think it will handle as well
C, It hasnt got as much kit in it,
D, I would lose a fortune on my 182

Im sure cup owners would agree that A and B are probably the most important things when considering a hot hatch or for them a 172 would obviously had made more sense

Reasons to upgrade, I like the looks, its more refined, newer, more comfortable etc but I believe the Megane 225 offers all this

i like my driving position!!

Id wanna test drive the thing before I made any judgments on how it performed.

I think the leap will be like Williams to 182.

New chassis. More power. More weight. Slightly less feel. Worse drivers car.

You can bang on about the figures all day. The facts will speak for themselves. All Electric PAS? Can anyone say CTR?

It does have leather, and they are extremely supportive seats. As far as the spec goes, I thought it had more than the 182.

  Turbos.
Can't people just wait until its out and stop speculating? Renault will create a crap Renault Sport Clio at their peril. Personally, i have faith in them, and think it will be the new best hot hatch.

Shut up!! Of course we can, that's the whole idea of this thread! You don't have to be Fernando Alonso to appreciate pace. And sure the MK2 isn't perfect, but look at TVR, Aston and not forgetting Lotus! As for your stupid 'traffic light warrior' comment, of course you never drive 'enthusiastically' any more do you.... You'd probably still have your 172 if you didn't get a fatty GTi with your company car allowance.

My 172 was a company car for your information, jealous are we??? My thread wasn't aimed at you was it?? so why get defensive, oh you dont track your car do you? forgive me must of missed that point. As for enthousiastic driving, my car will do 30 laps of the ring a year, so it gets it share of hard driving yeah. This board is full of a million threads all entitled 182 Vs ??????? And every single one of them is full of threads from people going " No way 182 is faster, etc etc etc. Who cares, as for fatty golf, as soon as the ABT chip is on and its running 230 hp and 300 nm of torque, i'll see you at yr local traffic lights if it make you happy. And seeing as its such a big issue, i pay 4000 quid in extra tax for my Company car a year over 3 years 12,000 quid almost the price of a 182, so its hardly a freebie is it.

Jealous? Of what? Your leased fatmobile? OK I admit it!!! ;) Forums are also full of people saying "When I've got my this, when I've got my that, when I've got my Ferrari, when I've got my penis enlarged...blah blah blah" thankfully they aren't often on this one. I think it's you who sounds a little defensive now mate. Either way you can't expect to post a wildly sweeping generalisation on a RS forum that was intended to wind us up and then get all arsey about it.

Don't get your panties in a bunch, or better why not go away and sign up to some lardy company GTi forum instead. I'm sure that would be hysterical. :rasp:

lmao, If my comment struck to close to the bone i apologise " the traffic light warrior" comment was a generalisation, thye fact you take offence in my book, means it struck close to home. I have been on here for a long time, and had a 172 for 3 years, so its not as though i'm incapable of offering my point is it. I am getting a Golf, why does me having a golf, or mentioning that i have one, cause problems??? As for wildly sweeping generalisation as Dash said, that general sweep covers 98% of CS, obviously your not the minority ;)

Surely that can not be right...

No chance a 172 cup is slower then a 182 cup!

I love this ! its like the PS3 vs Xbox 360 arguments. how can anyone speculate when the thing isnt even out yet? Why dont we find something else more relavent to do until its out? like getting a mrs and f**king that instead of arguing on a car website?

LOL well said, although there would end up being a thread thats titled " My missus is faster round the twisties than your missus" or " My missus's airbags are bigger" etc etc

  182 + Cup
Because it's fun, that's why!

Apologies for the delay, some actual work to do....

I don't think I'm in the minority, or possibly even the majority?? Truth is I'm confused by the depth of your argument so you're obviously much more intelligent than me ;). And you're right I haven't tracked my car yet as I've only had it for a month, BUT, I did go to the Jim Russell Racing School at Donnington Park so I'm not really worried about you and your schnitzel eating Golf DSG (Did Somebody Gruff?) even if you strapped a jet engine to the roof. Says it all that you think you have to mod your Fatmobile in order to keep up with a humble 182?

What was this argument about again? :D

Another case of "Dont Like It Dont Read It" I think. Of course its idle speculation at the moment. But the facts will tell the story. It will be a great car I have no doubt, but dynamically it will not better the outing 182, especially the Trophy. This is just opinion, but it's based on many known facts that give a hint as to how the car will perform. I personally hope I'm proven wrong. If you dont agree, then either debate it, or dont bother reading it :rasp:

I certainly dont see what having a partner has to do with it. I'd rather spend my own time debating a subject that interests me, than whining about how it doesnt. Why arent you 'f**king' your missus instead of whining about a thread where the topic doesnt interest you? Just a question not an attack mate ;)

Everything I've seen & read, puts the 182Cup & 172Cup bang on the money from zero through 60 and on to 100. We are talking minute differences even compared to full fat 172/182 so it doesnt really matter. Those figures have the weights wrong anyway.

LOL dude. While it will be a great car and may well deliver its power better than the 182/172, In standard trim it has a slower top end and less power/weight. It doesnt take Sherlock to figure out that it wont be any quicker, whether or not it's actually out yet.

Its all good banter, but pointless denying it wont be any quicker. Not that it needs to be really anyway :) The point people are making, I think, is that based on what we know at the moment, if anything, the 197 is very very likely to be slightly duller than the 182, both in agility and outright pace.

What we dont know, is how it will reach its 134mph top end. It may well scream to the limiter/shift light a bit quicker than the 182 does. As has been mentioned already, it's all about the gear ratios and how the power is delivered. The car might turn out to have a lot more shove over 110mph than the outgoing 182.

Same here.

What people fail to see is that being light is good at times, but sometimes it's a hindrance depending on the discipline. The slightly extra weight over the slightly wider front tyres on a 182 Cup give it better traction off the line.

The BMW M3 CSL has a slower 0 - 60 than the full fat version due to the exact same reason, traction.

What Lee said.

My only real dilema with the new RS is that I cant think of a reason not to get a 225Cup instead :dapprove:

The Clio has now become a little closer to the 225 in terms of size, and especially weight. It shares a lot of items and will likely not be much more dynamic than the 225....but the 225 is forced induction and has a lot more tuning potential....but...

FFS :clown:

It is still very clear that RenaultSport wish to keep a performance divide between Clio and Megane. I'd rather see them with identical performance and customers choosing between the size of car. We shouldnt forget that the RS Clio is still in the Fiesta class which is where it smokes all.

.

I aint arguing in its favour our kid, it can be seen that it looks slower on paper i agree, but if for example its 10 seconds faster round the ring, Cos the ring is like a good B -road i'm gonna say its real world speed might be faster. But until its actually out i dont think u can say for real if its faster or not.Depends on how you wanna judge it, On paper 0-60 and top speed, Or lap time.

Like I'd tell you that Dutch! I'm not sharing my winnings with anyone. Besides, I need all that money to buy a golf GTi!!!! Whehey!!!

Interesting point mate. Personally I gauge "performance" on how quickly it will reach a given speed, but others ideas will vary of course. Lap times around a circuit are a better judge of the cars ABILITY to go fast. Thats my opinion anyway. When 'people' say it wont be quicker, I'm fairly sure they mean that a 182 will be all over them off a roundabout onto a dually up to triple figures :D
