clio sport stop light and bettery light

i recently bought a renault clio sport 182 so new to the car and my battery light and stop light have popped up on the dash it runs fine but after a while of running i turned the fans on and i could smell and electrical burning i looked up on some of the forums and people saying about it being the alternator so im quiet certain its that but between 1k and 3k rpm it makes a whining sound and its only just happend when the battery and stop light have came on anyone know that this could be to do with the alternator or a different problemb

I had this, The big red connector on the alternator was about to fall off as it had snapped so kept touching and untouching and undercharging the battery.
