Clio turbo misfire/running rich

  RB Clio 182
Soooo ive just got back from efi, Chris has said he is almost cerain that the timing has slipped, everything on the map looks fine and he has adjusted the fuel trims on the ecu so it runs better and stops overfuelling so bad until i get it timed up.

Anyway Chris has a friend that used to work for rs tuning and also himself that has set up his own business in Wakefield, about 15 minutes from me, he said he is very good with a spanner and knows renaults inside out, has timing tools obvs etc.

Chris did offer to time it up for me but because it was running late he said i would have to leave it with him, which i would have done if i wasn't t almost a hundred miles away 😧

So Chris rung his friend up for me and he has booked me in with him on Saturday for it timed back up, and he knows the adaptronic inside out so he can re adjust the fuel trims to how they were, this is simple enough anyway.

So the car should be up and running again on Saturday, thank fook!

Thanks everyone and especially a big thanks to Chris at efi parts for his great customer service, he really is a top bloke!

Cheers mate, Tom.

He said he is almost 100%, the manifold pressure was low too which also indicates this, the car runs spot on now hes adjusted the fuel, took him about 3 seconds lol.

That's good news Tom. Also good to hear we have another renault specialist close by. Maybe you can post some details about him when you've been on Saturday?
Yes im going to post up his details and tell him about this site if he doesnt already know.

Chris said hes a proper good mechanic and a top bloke, he said ill get on with him and he's not a robdog.

He has given me his business card so i have his details too.

Probably poor workmanship lol.

Chris said it could be a stretched bolt, or something about the pulley or something, the clios arnt locked in place but the meganes are, good mechanics would use a megane one on a turbo build.
Yeah the megane's crank pulley is keyed iirc.

Well at least it's not slipped far enough to bend things, although annoying non the less

Yea i was worried when Chris said the timing had slipped, i asked him if there would be any damage, he said no you would know about it If it had any damage and it probably wouldnt even start.

Not an expert, but thought the keyed pulley was an essential to a turbo build?

I have read it is recommended with boost on these engines.

Glad you're getting it sorted, sounds like you have been very lucky!

Yes should be keyed on turbo and supercharged although it may be the exhaust pulley or the inlet. The nut and bolt should only be used once and the surfaces degreased and torqued to spec as you properly already know.

Crankshaft Toothed Bottom Pulley with Integrated Key, recommended for use with Superchargers, High Boost or engine speeds over 8000rpm.

This pulley features an integrated locking key that directly fits onto the Clio crankshaft to prevent slippage (no modification required). The original pulley relies only on bolt torque to retain its postion and have known to slip on engines that are Supercharged or use a High Boost turbo setup. We would also recommend these pulleys if the vehicle is subject to consitant engine speeds over 8000rpm.

No modification is needed to fit as there is a keyway in the Clio Crankshaft. These pulleys are factory fitted to the Megane 225 / 230 / 250 / 265 and Clio 197 / 200 as standard.

Renault Hate.
Would it have really have added so much to production costs to have proper woodruff keys, or splines & timing marks, rather than have a bit of horseshoe shaped piece of angle iron & a locating bolt in the crankshaft, with all the tapers at the correct torque.
And some some good solid cams?

I was also going to ask this, would be handy as it's probably pretty close to me too!

So im dropping the car off this afternoon and probably picking it up tomorrow, spoke to 'Andy' on the phone, another Andy :D

He sounds like a very knowledgable guy, he said really it could do with the meg locked pulley, but that would mean belts off etc, although he said he can simply time it back up for me, i think im going for this option as im selling, ill just tell whoever buys it that it would be best to get a meg pulley when they get the belts done, or before if they are worried.

Ill see what he says when i pick it up tomorrow anyway.

I hope you've now got it sorted but are they really known for skipping the belts ?

I'm not clued up on them though so hope it turns out to be your problem and your boosting away in no time

It was the bottom pulley that slipped mate causing the timing to be 15 degrees out.

Sooo the car is now sorted, its running sweeter than ever, i cant remember it running this good before its like s**t off Elton Johns prick!

After the timing was sorted Andy at Overboost noticed a misfire so we have put ome new oem plugs in because the others were coked up again due to the timing and overfuelling.

The plugs didnt solve it, but Andy told me to bring my spare leads through with me as he was now sure it was these, anyway we noticed some arcing on the inlet and yes one of the leads was split, new lead on and its running absolutely excellent!

I am proper chuffed, i dont want to sell the car but the mrs is moaning too much now and its probably only fair that i do.

Andy at Overbost was working on my car until 7 tonight from this morning, he only charged me 3 hrs labour, he has timed my car up, hellicoiled all the inlet up bacause the bolt holes were all fucked, changed the plugs and he has daignosed my misfire and fixed it, we also went out in the car twice with the laptop wired up to the ecu to check how the car was running etc, its running mint now!

So the biggest thanks is to Andy at overboost, such a top genuine bloke that genuinely cares that the car is sorted, i offered him some more money but he wouldnt take it. Top top guy! Ive found my new mechanic

Dont think so mate, overboost is his company name, its only been running a month or so iirc. Bloke will probably know him he used to work for rs tuning and efi parts, hes the guy off here that built the rear vr6 engined clio.
Definitely on here! One of his friends gave him my number when I was looking for someone to do my belts. I lost his number though when he text me as my phone fucked itself, so wasn't able to reply.. His car looked sweet though.
