Clio V6 Advice

A mate of mine has found a Clio V6 in red with 8500 miles on it for about £16k.

Its an 03 plate although is a MK1 V6, he just wanted to know if there is anything that he should be looking out for when buying, known faults etc.

Also does anyone know of a V6 specific club, I'm sure I saw one mentioned a while back.

nohing major to look for really, accident damage is the main one

check the brakes have loads of life left in them as they're not cheap to replace

same with tyres

coil packs go tits up

check how many previous owners its had etc etc, if the bloke selling it is even slightly dodgy, then the car probably is! i looked at loads of them, and only found 1 honnest car

service history is important too

gearboxes on the mk1's are crap and do fail

rememeber the cambelt is big money (use that to negotiate)

£16K is over priced really, thats mk2 money

I just thought it was weird it being on an 03 reg but mk1 thought that was mk2 territory??

There are a few mk1's on 53 reg's, I know of a mars red one for sale a while ago that was a mk1 on a 53 reg.
The mk2 must have come out late on the 53 reg (so just missed the 04 plate)

As said 16k is well over priced for a mk1 (even if it is red) - they are asking about 3k too much for it.

The v6 forum is very good & there is a lot of info on it.
