Clio V6 or S2000?

Starting to think about my next car already for when I hit 21 later this year, and for as long as it matters it has always been a V6 when I'm 21 and insurance is doable.

Love the looks, sound, rarity, love clios in general.

However seen a new S2000 in my works car park, orange one. And I love them! Never considered them as a car I'd actually buy until now.

The Honda will be a much 'better' car over the Clio is most respects, other than attention seeking and noise. But the V6 is one of my realistic dream cars.....

I don't do mega miles, have a run around van and a bike for pure speed, the car is just a second toy to me. I'm thinking the V6 may be a disapointment in some areas over my DC2, handling being the main one, but could I live with it?!
The honda should be a step up, plus roof down would be awesome, but not sure if I would be completely content with it.

Either one wouldnt be kept for too long I don;t think, new job coming up will mean I'll have to get something a little more sensible and grown up.

Everything is telling me that the V6 is the one to go for, but I don;t want to be disapointed because I have hyped them up in my own mind for so long.
Obviously I need to drive both, but I know what the outcome of that would be anyways!

As said, fuel isn't really an issue, practicality makes next to no difference, i'd live with it. Insurance will be doable, 1200ish on the V6 and around 1600 on the Honda I think, so thats no problem.

Simple question really, Show (Clio) or Go (Honda)?!

V6. It's your dream car. Run it for a bit enjoy it, then sell it on. Hopefully you won't lose too much aswell.

The S2000 is a great car but not anywhere near as special as the Vee.

At 21 and with an R6 I think I'd have the vee over the S2K

S2K is a bit more grown up yet I still love them

Its doing my head in!

I'm just thinking problems with a V6 now though, I would be buying a minter, no doubt about that. But are they getting to the age where things start to go downhill etc? Reliability going to become an issue?

Whereas the Honda would be spot on, no doubt about it.

I love Vtec too, DC2 is mental for it, whereas the V6 is obviously a bit lazier and linear in delivery.
I don't want to end up with a problem car that I regret buying, not had that with any car yet and I don't want to have it!

Selling it also comes up in my mind, would an S2000 sell easier than a Clio? As said before, I will be buying a minter, no compromises at all with what I want, and it will stay that way. The clio should hold money better right?

Although, one of these nipped past me today and it did look nice....

Danny, not into minis at all. Only other car I REALLY want at the minute is a new FRS, but I'm not boroowing money for a car, so looking at around 14k tops.

There are far less V6's on the road than the S2k

Cant see residual values being a problem, both have coped reasonably well as it would appear?

Key point that needs to be made here, your asking on a clio forum if you should buy a clio, what do you think they gonna say?

From a drivers point of view, i'd have an S2K, my mate has a yellow one and its awesome, the interior is such a nice place to be. I've never been in/driven a V6 but from a personal point of view i just think its far too much to pay for what is essentially a renault clio with a big engine stuck in the boot and an OTT bodykit stuck on it. To anyone who's not "in the know" they just look like a chavved up clio, at least with an S2000 it doesn't matter who see's it, noone is gonna think your a dirty chav.

  V6 255, 172's, JCW,
If you're even considering a Monaro like the one in your link.. you dont deserve a V6! lol

Reading between the lines, it seems your mind's already set on a S2000...

PH1 Vee all the way for me :D If only i had the £££ lol.

Although them monaros are serious cars for the money also! :approve:

If you like to drive a car properly then the S2000 for sure. It's conventionally better looking as well.

  S3, Polo
Ph1 Vee or Ph2?

Ph1's are slower than an S, Ph2's are quicker.

S2K prices range from £6k to £26k - what end of the spectrum are you looking?

If you want some *very* useful info on S2K's - PM me.

I'd have another one in an instant...

would be a phase 2, possibly a minter than mint ph1 illuad though for some reason.

I know it's a Clio forum but there's some sensible people on here. The s2000 is the best, but the v6 is the one to have I think.

Budget will be around 14k

Pepsi get a V6! You love being part of this community and your very knowledgable about Clios so combine both and get a V6 :)

S2k are very nice cars but dont have the rarity value of the V6.

id advise get the vee if your looking for something fun and special.

s2000 might be a fantastic car, but they are ten a penny and id much rather have a vee!

Fire me a pm if the first part is the case bud.

A mate had an s2000 years ago, it was a nice car, I just didn't like vtec at all though (i've writen my sum up in previous threads)

Tbh though a vee & an s2000 are worlds apart, if you want a really fast two seat cabby get an elise or a vx220 turbo.

Thinking about it today I think it's got to be a v6, nothing else will fill the gap...!

Ph1 or ph2 is the hard bit, I prefer ph2's apart from blue ph1's! But do I want one that bit older?!

I dont think age will matter when it comes to v6's. They are out of the price range where they would be messed around with unlike 172s so i imagine pretty much any v6 would have been treated better than your average car.

Well thats my perception anyway.

I'm sure you've been getting a V6 for about 10 years now. Lost track of how many threads you've made about it! lol..

Test drive both and then decide for yourself. How much would the S2k be?

I'd get the V6 but only in Acid/Liquid because I'm an ASW.

Ask Ali etc, I'm no massive Vee fan. But it's better to drive than the Honda. Horrible steering in the s2000. If considering the Honda, the later cars are better to drive.

Always planned on one at 21. Could have got one this year but couldn't justify it with my brothers job not looking solid.

If it was a ph2 it would be black, or maybe blue. It's bad enough having a bodykitted Clio, but a bright yellow one too?!
Roll on 21....

Never black. Too much of an arse to keep clean. Blue looks great, as does Titanium.

  Turbos.
I'd only get a Ph2 V6, is that what you're comparing?

Ultimately, the V6 may not be perfect but didn't it make it into Evo's ECoTY? I like the S2k but it is flawed just as much as the Vee.

if you can afford a mk2 vee, get one. the updates made to it are handy and tidy.

don’t be put off a mk1 though, they are pretty much the same car and theres virtually no real world difference in speed.

there seem to be loads of dogs out there, buy sensibly and it will be easy to sell. and be wary of the cambelt change!! nothing like be welcomed to ownership with a £1000+ bill. theres mk2s for 12-13k out there, but some don’t have that belt done, which you might aswell change the clutch whilst your there and have a major service….so its more like £1500 as well as the logistics pain of getting it to a specialist.

mods don’t seem to add any value to the cars, and theres lots of popular mods that improve things (seats, coil overs, exhausts), ie if you find a mk1 with a mk2 gearbox and kw v'3s you will go faster and corner better than a standard mk2 for the price of a standard mk1. I mean theres a 305bhp mk1 that’s totally sorted currently for sale for £13750. that’s cheaper than a decent mk2 and an absolute weapon.

if I were to buy another, id be looking at owners club cars that are for sale and id be bloody anal about every little thing. costs a damm fortune to correct even the smallest bit on the cars.

missing front splitters, front trays, undertrays, wire mesh, wheel arch liners….you wouldn’t believe the prices of these things!

Warren, black definately!
I like keeping cars clean, wouldn't use it everyday and it will be covered anyway, only colour to have for me.

Englebert, yeah only really comparing the ph2. A pg1 would have to be very cheap to come into it really, and only in blue.

  S3, Polo
If I were looking to spend £14k on a 2-seater, I'd be getting an 2004/5 S2k or S1 Exige.

I liked the VX220T thing - owned one for a year - and sourcing parts that go wrong (bubbling/ crazing clams and suspension components) is bloody hard - ie, like hens teeth, so I'd not bother...
