Clio V6 vs Trans AM WS6

a buddy of mine is talking trying to imprt a Clio V6 here to the states (cause they look so damn bad ass. and the question has come up, just how fast are they? more importantly can it handle a Trans Am WS6 in the 1/4? or to 60mph?

ok the trans am will trash the sh*t out of it. hes looking for something that can truely show its tail lights to the WS6. any ideas of somethign with at least 300 ft/lbs

Is that what Micheal Knight drives? whats the stats of one of those buddy? a v6 0-60 in about 5.8sec i think, 1/4mile in, i aint got a clue!!!

  Spec C 12.5@110 (345/355)

Hes joking, 0-60 is around 5.6/8 and will do well over 150 mph. A euro 1/4 mile of low 14s!

lol, michael knight drove a trans am, but it was an older model, back in the days of 5.7L TPI. im sensing a big of a condesencding "tone" with the general lee picture, that would be a Dodge Charger (1967 i beleive) which was powered by a 426 CID (~6.9L) Hemi putting down ~425hp. the Trans Am in question is an LS1 (of Corvette fame) powered 2002.

a true "yank tank" as some of you might know them. this buddy of mine is apparently set on a clio V6 after playing with on gran turismo. he wants to know if its possible to mod one to a level able to compete with another friends WS6 which is lightly modded and pulls down 12.8 1/4.

  220bhp octy VRS

the trans am will win in a straight line...but when it comes to turning corners the v6 will make it look silly:confused:

Think it is MikeT that that has the supercharged V6 Clio on here aint it? By the way, he should get the Mk2 V6, not the Mk1 as the 2nd is obviously faster

yeah if you do what Mike did and get yourself a Mk2 then supercharge it and obviously uprate everything similar to how Mike did you can expect ~350bhp.

enough to compete. mind you, throw enough money at a car and it will beat anything so im sure more than 350bhp is possible...

get a Williams Clio instead and supercharge and turbo it... in fact, may as well make it 4WD too :D. That would be an awesome car

dont make the mistake of assuming that just cause has a big pushrod V8 that it cant take corners.

what would you guess is the total (local) cost of an MK2 V6? and will it still be streetable? or worthy of taking those 500 - 1000 mile roadtrips, or will it be like a track car?

thats nice, with that he could f**k with the trans am, and maybe he could play with a stock vette. whats it gonna cost to put somethign like that in his garage aside form importation costs?

speaking of which word around here is that yall are gonna have access to the C6 Corvette? any anticipation on that side of the pond? 50k USD gets you a touch over 400hp and a chassis thats more than up to challange

List price for a brand new Clio V6 is circa £27k otr..... f**k knows how much on top of that to import the thing....

The anticipation of the new corvette is not great, as far as Im concerned anyway. 400 Bhp is all well and good, but fuel at 80 pence a litre is not!!!

aight so its like 45 large. prolly be like 70 by the time its registered and passes saftey & emisions, should be pretty cheap to insure, they are RWD right? and are they avail in LHD?

basicly does anyone know where i can find like a stat sheet? displacements power levels etc?

excuse my ignorance, whats 80 pence? like 8/10 of a pound? thats not that bad... besides the LS1 had no problom with milage in the 20s, it can even tap the 29/30 area on the highway , CAGS skip shift keeps the mpg in check as long as you dont rev it much past 2k rpm. its better than my ride, i get like 8-12mpg 18 if im on the highway (with no passengers, a low tank, minimal cargo, no A/C on, and the windows closed, at 65mph)

$7/gallon roughly. i think most Americans would start drawing guns if they had to pay that much.

PMSL @ "8/10th of a pound" :D

oik thats $6 a gallon, that is pretty rough, how much is diesel there?

and insurance should be pretty cheap this has got some serious promise, and theres nothing like having a car that NO one else has. i think theres one guy around here with a Seat and ive seen a few Alfas and even the occasional skyline. but NO ONE has a Clio V6.

lol... doubt it mate... they do that anyway dont they?!?!?

glad you all enjoyed that, here we would call that cents, and my tiem in europe has been limited to the mediteranian, using Lire and Drax, and euros. hence no experience with british money.

and i ve been into the some of the worst neighborhoods in the northeast US, ive never had a gun pulled directly on me, and ive never had to pull a gun on anyone. but i do think some hell would reign down if over night gas prices flew from a $1.70/gallon to $6-$7/gallon.

however, Dodges new Ram is available with a new cummins turbo diesel that makes 325hp and 600ft/lbs. and it does a bit beter on gas. all in all i envy the better diesel you guys get, wont be here till 06 or 07 i think.

Just kidding about the guns mate... cant help bringing out the ol American stereotype every now and again!!

More and more diesel cars on our roads all the time.... The performance of the modern diesels is not far behind the equivalent petrol model and gets 50+ mpg at the same time. Makes sense really, especially with our fuel prices....

Anyway, at $70k, is a Clio V6 really a viable option for your friend?? Im sure there are many cars on the US market in that price range that can do a darn sight more than a Clio!! (Probably not quite as many look that nice though?!!)

If you want something fast get a motorbike a Hayabush with a £10k turbo kit should kill everything except figher jets and formula one racing cars.

The V6 isnt the fastest thing on the planet and there are cheaper cars which are just as fast but then again theres always going to be something faster.

The V6 looks like nothing else especially as in the US you have to import one so it would stand out more. Imagine telling people they achually build it its not some bodykitted car.

its all about the image. its how NSXs and Skyline GT-Rs get around (at 90k a pop, and they only make 275-300hp), its to have somethign no one else has. cause where i am, theres no such thing as exclusivity. S500s 745s A8s are everywhere, he used to drive an M Coupe, brought it home, and realized there was an M Roadster just 6 houses away. makes hard to stand out. hence the occasional Alfa Romeo. and to have a small car, that hardly anyone will recognize but can still show lights to a MB CL, thats exclusivity. besides that thing just looks so bad ass, big intakes on the side and all.

and i hope for his sake it wont look a run of the mill hatch with a body kit, damn ricers. thank god for the vette and the viper, we as americans are losing the sports car game, even the new GTO is Australian, and with the chrsler/MB merge im not counting on chrysler for anything (except of course for the viper and the SRT-4), especially since they are straight f**kin up jeep. GM and Ford are where my faith is, with the new Mustang, Soltice, Chevy SS, Corvette and (soon) even the Chevy SSR (with the new 6.0, not the pussied out 5.3) is gonna get a grasp on the sports car market.

do you guys get any of those cars over there? just curious.
edit - yeah we have plenty of crotch rockets, but thats no fun, looks like just another kid on a bike, besides any jack ass with 10 grand can go buy a bike. most people wont be able to tell a hayabusa from a ZX-6

  Clio 197

Have a look here:

http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/

As no Renaults are mentioned at all, I would imagine the car would b a test case, only eligible for consideration under show or display.

I dont believe that the V6 could be federalised, and it may be pretty hard to get it in as a show or display car as it really isnt that exclusive.

There are many cars that are not allowed into the USA no matter what loophole you try. Im in the process of registering an Exige that spent a few years in the USA before it was shipped back out because it couldnt be federalised.

never say never. im sure it possible, you just gotta know the right people, and spend enough time doing it

if people can get Skylines, evos (older) STis (older), Alfas, and even McLarens in, im sure he could get a renault in. i even heard a rumour that a Rover SV is roaming my local streets.

I love how a 5.3 liter is called a small engine in america that massive in Britain.

We dont get many big cars over here in the UK as petrol prices and the fact that thewre the wrong hand drive limits appear there are a few importers though. There supposed to be bringing the viper over here in the next few years though as the manurfaturer wans to move into new markets. The thing is in britian we know of companies by different car than you americans do so its likly they will be rebadged as something else.

You may be able to import a car in pieces if you cannot get it into the country as a complete car then build it up and register it as a kit car. Thats what Bill Gates did with his Mclaren F1. There a site on the net where someone is doing the same with a V6 diesel engine into his Passat if your interested who may be able to give you soem ideas.

You maybe best asking some airplane shipping companies though about moving the car over there are usaully they have loads of spare space in a container but they cannot use it. They will chage you about £3k I reocon though all in including insuracne.

lol dont get me wrong 5.3 isnt small, but in a 5000 pound "truck" thats supposed to be fast the 300hp the 5.3 makes just isnt enough to make it hustle. id say there is no average size engine here, most "regular" cars have 3-4L 6cyl, while the average truck prolly has 5-6L and small cars usually hover around 2.0L.

but this is also the land of Ford Excursions, Hummer H2 and the Suburban. V6 is entry level, you need an 8, 10, or 12 to play here (or a whol lot of boost) and you gotta admit NOTHING sounds as good as big V8 with straight pipes, i love setting off car alarms with nothign but an exhaust. you guys have the Rover SV (mustang 4.6L powered) and the Holden Monaro (our GTO, LS1 powered), and shurly you get the Grand Cherokee with a 5.9L V8. i refuse to belive that anyone could get behind the wheel of any of these and not have an overwhelming desire to be preopelled by big cubes.

and hes looking into it now, ill let you all know how it turns out

we cant afford to run those types of cars unless we are mega rich m8, most of my family are American and we go over a lot and its depressing to see how the standards and costs of living differ. 5.3L V8s are out the question for most over here, which is why most cars round here that are moddified and quick are turbos. The big boys will be making their own cars, but Scoobies, Mitsi Evo and Skylines are the daddies around here due to relatively small engines and f-ing great big turbos ;). Gotta say tho, the Cobra R is the most amazing sounding car ever, ever nice that a 355 F1 IMO.
