Clio wake up call

Over the road from me is a retail park that attracts the local boy racer brigade on an evening. They all sit there having there macdonalds and throwing them out of the window before revving the nuts off the cars and beeping the horns until 2am.

Until now the cars have all been of the same ilk, corsa's, 106's (1.1 style)' mk4 astra vans etc but last night I was shocked to see two 172s and a 182 in the same car park!

I know it's been discussed on here before but after nearly nine years on this site I have now had to accept that clios (172s and 182s) are now been bought by the chav youth of today.

Id have never thought it when I drove my 182 out of the dealership in 2004 after handing over £13500!

Was always going to happen. They can be bought for as little as £500 now so they are always going to end up in the wrong hands and be mistreated etc.

So?

You get dick heads in all sort's of performance cars, by all account's i've seen more cnut'ish driving from people in fast Audi's/BMW's than Clio's.

I really wouldn't worry.

chavs get their hands on them cheap, can't afford maintenance costs and generally ruin them! Brings the price up of clean examples surely?

This... everyday... x 100

Clownshoes that think their DRL's give them precedent in the outside lane, being either up your back end or blocking your way with a large gap in front.

I never see any other 172's near me anymore

Yep spot on.

Look at saxos 95% are s**t rot boxes or broke. but a well maintained and cared for one holds a premium.

The chavs will get bored of rs clios because of the cost of making them quicker etc

Annoying though when it comes to selling a well maintained one.

You just get the chavs ringing up

"ere mate theres loads for xxx amount you've got no chance of getting xxx amount"

I know it happens but when I joined back in 04 there didn't seem to be anyone under the age of 25 on here.

Not that I'm saying youth is a problem or that all younger drivers are chavs by any means but the price drop has certainly made them more affordable to the chav element.

I personally don't know how they afford the insurance these days!

It'll be okay again in say 3-4 years, when the only ones left belong to people who look after them. For now we can just keep our heads down and try not to look like a chav. Easier said than done in Cups...

i must agree about chavy youngsters getting stupidly good and powerful cars, im 25 and far from a chav, i have had alot of cars (26 so far) and touch wood never crashed them just got bored very quickly, and the plus of a traders policy made it easy to keep changing. now i have settled down with a mortgage, baby on the way and 1 insurance policy ive abandoned my stupidly quick cars last one being a vr6. and got a very sensible clio 172 cup, 3 owners 70k on the clock and it is immaculate. and like mentioned the good clean cars are pulling good money. i just dont understand how an 18 / 19 y/o can afford like a scooby or mk5 / 6 golf gtis. not including the insurance costs, just purely the maintenance and running costs.

This tbh, it's very rare i see crap driving from "boy racers" on the road, far more from sales reps in Audi's and clueless women.

Im 19, I can afford my 200 because I have a job. How hard is that to understand?

Just because someone's young, doesn't make them poor.

Completely agree. I've always had reasonably nice cars, but my family is far from well off. I've worked for it all, as have alot of other younger people.

Just cos they are chav's doesn't mean they are poor either. Money doesn't buy taste, manners or anything like that. Also just because someone is a chav doesn't mean they don't look after their cars. There are some "chavs" around me with cars I can't afford who do the same as described in this thread. In fact I bet a lot of them look after their cars better than me!!

Please don't take this as me liking chav's cos I f**king hate them... i just don't understand this notion of people thinking chav's couldn't afford to or didn't buy 1*2's, 197's and 200's, I bet they bought loads??

They're a bargain that's why. I sometimes think about upgrading my 182 to something newer and more upmarket so to speak.

Then I realise I own it outright, servicing etc (cambelt aside) is cheap, its generally reliable, it cheap enough to do track days in without worrying about and insurance is now reasonable at 22.

Pretty much my thinking tbh!
