Clio, WHICH ONE!

hmmm....its hard tho, cos even tho im only 19 now, im craving for the power, when i first passed at 17, i was a named driver on my dads s reg rover 600 which is a 2litre, and it was the nuts, and i like to think i was responsible, and i think it prepared me well cos i had the power, didnt mis use it, and then just after i turned 18, i had enough saved for the clio, and to insure it, if i was in his shoes now (but i spose that is after 2 year experience) if i had the cash id go for the 172 any day

To add to what Robs sensibly said its all very well some people saying they can insure it in their moms name but you miss out on No claims bonus and I doubt you want to be on your parents insurance for the rest of your life.

Get a low insurance group car for a few years. Learn to drive properly (much more than takign a test), get a few years NCB and then move up the ladder.

Hard?? PAH!

Ive driven 3 1.0L cars between 17 and 22, im still 22 and only driving a 1.4.

When im 24-25 then a faster, powerful car will be on the cards. ;)

I dont like giving stupid sums of money away to insurance companies!

End of the day its how you drive!.

Although just because you have got a fast car doesnt mean that you are a fast driver!. Just more temptation involved...

In a way its like having a 10,000 watt sub+amp. You can can only go so high before you go deaf (but u know its there, SO ITS FOR SHOW)

What I am trying to getting at is i could have a 172 without speeding its just knowing its there... If needed.

If you get me:confused:

Rubbish, of course you would drive it fast thats what its designed for!

Is "just knowing its there" worth £3600 in insurance and a possible massive loss in money "if" you have a crash?

Would you like me to repeat what i said! above.

"i guarantee you will crash it."

  don't

m8 fair enough u say u wouldnt rag the car but paying £3600 for insurance is stupid

im 19 and paid £1600 for my 1.8 rsi, and pay £900 on insurance, total of £2500 deff fast enough 4 me, would have been way 2 fast as a first car

so thats a total of 2500, u would b paying over 1000+ just for insurance

really isnt worth it, ud b throwing away all that money, and then ud do it again the year after aswel

get sumin cheaper, doesnt have 2 b really cheap but just something where ud pay under 2 grand in insurance anyway

u wont regret it, and then in a years time ull look back at this and think thank f*ck i didnt go and get the 172 cos id b skint

Most people here have been there, seen it and bought the t-shirt so to speak, they are worth listening to. If you re-read these comments in a years time, you will probably agree!

What i might do is have a test drive in one before i decide, but first things first is to pass my test on the 27th. Heres Hoping....

Get one if you want one. If its what you want dont let anyone stop you.

Personally i think paying £3600 (PER YEAR!) for insurance is insane, if your willing to pay that your either rich or a complete nutter. Have a fault claim and you will lose sh*tloads and have to sell the car (as you wont get insurance).

Going on parents insurance is an option but your insurance will be expensive when you eventually decide to put it in your name, plus youd have to think how your parents feel losing valuable NCD if you did?

172 BHP is a serious amount of power in a car like the clio, you run a very high risk have a serious accident and causing yourself or someone else some serious pain/grief.

You need to accept regardless of how good at driving you think you are...

1. You have very little road experience.

2. No (im assuming) high speed driving experience. Simply no clue of how to distinguish what to do in a given situation when a car behaves different to what you expect.

3. A lot of confidence, eagerness and exitement in regards to driving.

4. Irrational thinking pattern, if you think paying £3.6 a year is worth it (unless your rich).

5. No licenese as of yet.

As for saying you wont drive it fast...

Its like osama bin laden standing out side the white house saying...

"Gimme that RPG, i wont shoot anything".

insurance group is alot lower and the car isnt really that much slower...

A fat Rover 600 2 litre doesnt do 0-60 in 6.5 and 140+ MPH ;)

Plus youd look stupid racing round in a rover 600 lmfao! :D

it was good for 130+ with 3 people lol, and its 0-60 werent to bad, but yes agreed on the racing comment, decent car tho!

Id say, save your cash, if you want speed, try and find a mint 16V or 205 GTi, just insure it 3rd party, hardly matters if you only pay 1500 for it. I had a 16V Clio when I was 18 ( back in 1995) and it was only 700 fully comp, shows how much things have changed.
