Clio williams phase 1 - HELP

Looking at buying a phase 1 clio williams,

been to look at 5 now and none have been in good enough nick for my liking,

most have rusty arches and some have silly miles on the clock, every one i have seenhas been painted and not very well either,

is there any decent ones left i ask myself,

im aware that there is some very nice ones but the owners seem to want stupid money for them there is one on auto tader at moment for £10.5k and its done 48k too,

if anyone has one please tell me what ures is like condition wise and how long did you have to look for it??

any help would be greatfull!

Just gotta keep looking and avoid garages!
But you have to expect some imperfections on a 10 year old car.

I didnt even plan on buying a Williams til I got mine, so it was the first one i looked at. Had 48k on the clock. Interior perfect, one very small rust patch on one of the rear arches where there was initially a stone chip, and a small dent in the bonnet (tiny infact).

Cost £3,250 but i think it was total fluke and totally undervalued by its owner (like I complained) lol

Mats right - youve just got to keep looking til you find the right one, and dont be afraid to travel!

(Its a Willy 2 tho, not an original but only a year younger)

the 2 and 3s are easy to find and in better nick in my opionion,

its just im not spending 5k on a car that is rusty and scrathed with high milage like all the ones i have seen,

realy want one and will travel already traveled loads but cant seem to find anything near,

was thinking of buying a cheaper rougher one and getting work done to it instead,

my mate has a willy 1 with 50k on it, only prob is that arches are going and bonnet has a dent and chipped so was thinking of buying that and spending on it???

what u think

I got a 2 - doesnt make any difference to me - its got 29k on the clock and runs sweet. getting a 1 wont make much (if any) difference when you sell it - as someone said to me when I came on here first - dont worry about 1,2,3 just get the best one you can find:D

i always looked at them on autotrader wishing i could have one, then when i finally got some cash organised, i too bought the first one i saw, it had 56k on clock, refurbed alloys with eagle f1s all round, magnex system decat and k+n, he advertised it on autotrader at 5k but i got it for 4500 in the endup, not a blemish on the whole car and that is no joke, the guy really looked after it and was selling it to get an escort cosworth. ive had it about 4 months now and havnt spent a penny on it, lucky suppose, the guy even gave me the reciept for it he paid 6500 a year and a half before that, i would go for a willy 3 if you can get one, i would have but by what ive read the sunroofs on clios are not worth the hassle.

realy want one of the origionals though, deffo dont want one with sunroof?

would concider a williams 2 if it was mint though,

im fussy and want a very good condition one though, not into buying the first one i see unless its MINT

hehe i have a williams 1 and 2 and both are in very good condition.

it took me 6 months to find the williams 1 as most of them i went to look at were a bit ..............errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr unloved shall we say lol

i bought the willy 2 without even driving it but i had seen craggy in it for 12 months and knew how quik/clean it was....

if u want a willy 1 , 1 wil turn up.......eventually

I think alot of the best ones are too loved to be sold. Most of the ones (1s) ive seen for sale are pretty fu**ed. Just be patient. And i also agree with what most ppl are saying. Unless a numbered plaque means alot to you, a 2 is probably a better choice because it will be younger. Its only saddos like me that waste money on a little brass plaque;). If you do get one though, i guarantee you wont regret it. In my opinion, the best looking, best handling hot hatch ever.

and when you have the 2 fastest timed ones in the uk(over the last 2 years i believe) the smile just gets wider hehe

driving them back to back theres not much dif tho tbh

id say keep looking too i had a gtturbo previous to getting my 172 and it took me 6months and numerous trips up and down the country to find a minter, they are like rocking horse sh*t most are used and abused so i totally understand what you mean. but stick with it and one will turn up :D

Look on the for sale forum. Willy number 399 was up for sale for £9k with 17000 miles on the clock. A bit of haggling and you could have a nearly new one for 8.5 grand or so.....

I wouldnt pay more than 5.5k for any Williams though. FSH and reciepts with under 80k & ur laughing.

I jus cant c those people selling Willys for much over 6k getting anywhere near it!

If uv got the cash waiting ull see a sensible 1 come up, jus a matter of time m8.

17000 miles though. Thats less than our 3 year old 172! In 3 years time therell be hardly any Williams around at all, and one in good nick and with such stupidly low mileage should be able to command a decent fee.

I personally wouldnt pay more than £6k for a Willy now, but only because I dont have money to chuck around like that. Some people do, and if I did have that sort of money, a Willy 1 with 17k on the clock would be quite high up my shopping list for £9k.
