You can buy a rubber grommet to fit the hole

Nah there is a flat one that was used on clios in other countries.. but its unavailable from renault

Take the plate off, use some car body filler to cover the hole, sand it back so its smooth, then paint it and laquer it, Job done and looks a good un.
