Am considering getting a performance filter for my mk2 172, which one is best and has anyone come across any problems with the one they purchased? cheers.

If you are just looking for a replacement panel filter then either the Pipercross one (which I have) or the green cotton filters seem the popular choices.

I have the pipercross panel filter and have no problems with it... Havent noticed any difference with it though!!

Saved me £45 when I had my 12k service as Renault didnt need to change it. Instead of £175.00 it was £130.00 :D

What about an induction filter? The pipercross viper looks ok but is it really worth the expense? are Renault ok with filters, exhausts etc with regards to the warranty?

They had no issues with my filter or exhaust when I had my first service last week.

You might want to do a search as there have been lots of posts about induction kits on 172s. You certainly want an enclosed one thats for sure.

Not an induction filter then?

That will only suck more warm air into the engine. An enclosed one with a cold air feed would be more effective. Or an open one with a home made enclosure. A few people have done that.

Im sure someone will be along with a better, more techical explanation in a bit. :D

Does the viper come with a cold air feed? Did your filter make any noticable difference?

Got a Viper on my Cup and its going on the rollers this weekend, so well see how good it really is....

Does make the car quicker and more responsive, as well as sounding superb.

Was it easy to fit? i dont want to have to start moving too much, had enough of that crap with my R5GTT

that looks pretty phat, how much was it? Been thinking about getting a viper kit myself and then cut out a little bit of the plastic grill that runs along the lower front right edge of the bumper, but only big enough to fit the round bit, then cover it with a mesh to stop larger bits of crap maiking its way up.

It was round £200 but it was a development kit. That price included:

Filter, Custom housing, Heatshield, Twin air feeds, Cold air scoop and fitting

Whether Nick is still doing them I dont know but it was awesome sounding!

Im not sure if the standard inlet manifold is able to give much more power. Ive experimented with loads of panel filters and induction kits and Ive decided the standard airbox works just fine. Best thing to do is get an open kit on, but either shielded like the Hillpower one, or relocated in front of the battery. That way youll keep the performance but it will sound much, much better.

Or, of course, get a 182 inlet manifold so you can get more air into the engine.....like I am next Monday ;)
