Clio2mk2 lowering issue!

  BMW e46 320 Ci Sport

hi guys i had a previous topic about lowering my clio and people suggested to me 60mm. Basically, i have been worried by a m8 of mine who has a 1.2. He told me to drop mine 60mm too but then got back to me a few days l8r saying that apparently the 1.6 is different in some way meaning that i shouldn#t drop it more than 35mm! Has any1 had the issue or know about it!?

Also as a related issue i rang r tec to get the work done and the boss there told me that there were no shocks released for the clio2mk2 unless i bought spax which they didnt recommend and refused to fit for me! Does any1 think ill need uprated shocks or can i avoid them!?!?

P.s. Its 2003 model Clio2 mk2.

david, i have a mk II 1.6 16v and the -60mm springs are IDENTICAL to the 1.2 16v springs. K-teck confirmed this for me. you will eventually need to replace the shocks if you lower 60mm, though if your gonna replace the shocks and the springs, you may as well get coilovers..

std shocks will be ok for 6months(ish)

And your correct about the shocks accept Koni make them aswell (which are 100x better than spax!!!!)

Koni make stupidly stiff dampers, youre only saying that cos you have FKs Freddy boy!

K-tec sell Spaxs cheapest kit, its not going to be amazing but for the price you get something which aint gonna break by a well respected name, theres also the fact that our Clios arent no racing cars, so coilies are only worth it if you want to go ultra low like Fred, otherwise its not worth spending well over £600 for them.

Fred... u rekon they will be worn out in 6 months?!? Is that on the 35mm or the 60mm?! Thats not a very long time considering they are brand new. Also how will i know when they have worn out, will my clio be really bouncy or stiff or what!? Cheers

35mm will wear them but not as much as 60mm

will lowering 55mm with k-tecs spax kit put any strain on my driveshafts and wheel bearings? renault seem to think it will but i dont really trust them!

it will obviously increase the stress on these parts and therefore decrease the life span, but i havent had any problems and my car has done 43000miles (40000 of those has been with the car lowered)
