ClioCup/ Espace V6 Airbox

  Octavia vRS tfsi
I've been trying in vain for the past forthnight, if not longer, to try and track down either a part number for the Espace airbox or a second hand item for sale.
I've been in contact with a few members on here in relation to it and I've gotten the part number required, but after being on to a (not so helpfull) Renault dealer here in Ireland, I was informed that because of the system they use they are unable to order me a part number on spec unless it's either been ordered before or unless I can provide them with a chassis number.

I've been on ebay looking at every Espace that's available for breaking, ebay Ireland, ebay UK, ebay France, ebay Germany and the vast majority of the Espaces' either have no engine shot, or the airbox is square.

I know the airbox I require is off a post 1997 V6 Espace, but with some having a square airbox and some having the correct one, which specific model Espace do I need to order off.

Any help anyone can give me would be much appreciated. A chassis number for a relevant Espace would be perfect as it would allow me to order one directly from Renault. Trying to get the car sorted for the trackday season begining shortly.

Waiting in anticipation

If you have the part number i cant see a problem.
Have you tried contacting a specialist to see if they can post you the part?

K-Tec or similar?

To be honest, I can't see the problem either.... but they seem to have a problem. I'm being told that the system they use will only order off a chassis number or if the part has been previously ordered.

It seems like the most ridiclous system in the world. This was a Renault dealer. I haven't tried others yet. Either their whole system is flawed here or I've just come across a lazy incompetant.

I haven't tried any specialists, I didn't realise they were in the business of pulling bits off old cars...

They arent, but they do order standard parts.
Perhaps you could ask them to order one and post it to you?

hi, did the part numbers i gave you work?

If you need im sure someone or myself can order it for you and post it.

PM if you need help! Fred put the price in my thread when i posted the part number for everyone.

Hi Dave, no, no joy with the part numbers with Renault. By the time it would be ordered, shipped and delivered it's unlikely I'll have anything ready for the car at this stage prior to Mondello on February 8th so I'll have to go with what's on the car.

Just saw that thread there after doing a search and quite obviously the part number is correct. Certainly maybe the option of someone ordering and shipping it to me is something that I'll be looking into.

Quite a large package though not particulary heavy.

They want a chassis number for to order a part? What a load of crap. Usually they only need a reg plate :S

What year of Espace do these airboxes come on ??

Reg plates are no good dude. The RS Clio was never for sale in Ireland bar the new 197. Imported cars that are put onto the Irish plates arn't read by the system.
The vast majority of Renault dealers here will have never seen an RS Clio. I went to Renault at one point for brake pads and the parts man was fascinated with the car, the first and only one he had ever seen.

There's also the fact that I'm driving over here on UK plates at the moment and the Renault system here certainly doesn't recognise them. Haven't managed to get the interest to gather the £1,600 STG required to put the car on Irish plates yet, it's a work in progress.:)

Why would your plates or a 172 be of any use to find a espace airbox?

Have you tried irish exchange and mart for reg plates or autotrader?
The renault system should respond to EIRE sold reg plates.

PM sent Peter.

@ Tom, the problem with doing that, which is quite easy to do, is that from my searching on ebay and looking at engine shots of Espaces for breaking, not every Espace V6 post 1997 has the round style airbox with one 100mm feed, many of them seem to have a square box like that of the Phase 2 172. I could pull a plate off an Espace V6 in the autotrader but I'm not sure from which specific V6 I need to order from.

Ah yes, but you have the correct part number at your disposal.

Did some research, tracked down the exact Espace, it's not the 3.0, it's the 2.9 from 1997. Tried searching for a plate on the autotrader.ie and carzone.ie, but low and behold there's no 1997 Espace V6's for sale (no great shock there!).

Armed with the part number I chanced my arm with another dealer. No problem. No bloody problem what so ever. It would be a special order from France, would need to be paid for up front and would take two weeks to arrive. The cost from Renault Ireland: €125 +VAT or around STG£93 +VAT.

In terms of the other related costs needed for this, how much is the Samco bend, ITG filter and 100mm CAF likely to set me back?

Quite annoyed at both the other dealer and myself. Had they not faffed me about or had I been more proactive I could have had it in time for Mondello. Seeing as I won't at this point I can afford to leave it run a few weeks safe in the knowledge that I now know it can be gotten EASILY from the dealer.
