After a lengthy 3 months of trouble free motoring (well things not physically breaking) I have this little surprise.

Inside of the wheel is looking a bit greasy.

Good job I check over my car at least once a week.

P.S Steve told you my drive shafts would be next to go, only thing left to break lol.

  Whichever has fuel
I need to replace both mine soon...

ANOTHER job that needs doing. Along with two tyres, all engine/box mounts, MOT. Got to love cars. :(

  RS RIP
looked in the maintenance history of my cup and the driveshafts were renewed under warranty at under 24000 !!

Yes it seems they're a tad bit WEAK %$%$*^%

I check everything at least once a week, it looks like just the metal band has broke around the edge.

It's passenger side ;)

WHen this grease buildup is there ; does it automatically mean new driveshafts ? I think i saw my wheels being greasy on the inside last time i checked... Jeeez that would make two times in under 70000 miles

CV joinit is on both ends of the driveshaft. I'm not sure if they are replacable on the Renaults as a seperate part, Old Vauxhalls are....

If its your CV boot clip thats broke use a jubilee clip of appropriate size.

This is what Renault themselfs use as its cheaper than buying a 35 quid CV boot kit.

Remember to buy the greese from any good motor factors (roughly 70p a packet)

won't a jubilee clip hit anything though?

Reckon Halfords would sell the grease, whats it called?

Oh dear, you must have really upset the french in the past life.

On a serious note you could probs bodge that back together

Yeah they might do.

Im just saying a motor factors to save you buying a 4.99 tub of the stuff lol

If you buy it in a packet your getting exactly the amount you need then.

LOL nooooo dont use cable ties lol

Going to halfords in a min for a BIG jubilee clip and grease, any hints to what grease it actually is?

Not sure of the proper name of it. Just say its CV grease for doing the CV boot, they'll know what it is as its the proper greese for this exact job.

Pop to steves, he'll pop on the right clip for you and grease it up ;)

No need for a new shaft mate, at the worst change it for a new rubber gaiter, as said with them being plastic they are hard to get to stay on, although a jubilee clip is not overly pretty, it should do the job!! Euro motaparts in whitchurchs mate should stock the grease! Or i can get you some!

i got mine from work lol. The gun to tighten them is £400 lol. Benefits of working in industry :)

you dont need to change the whole shaft! buy a stretch gaiter,, you just pop the shaft out of the hub (leave it in the gearbox) stretch the gaiter over with a cone then put it back on

Sorry to gatecrash this thread.

What do stretch gaiters look like ?

Just normal cv boots ?

And are they widely available ?

Not always, could just be a split in ur CV boot (the rubber bit) but if its left too long with no grease in then yeh ull need a new drive shaft or itll just destroy itself

Yes they look the same, they are just made from rubber, hence you stretch it over!!
