Clunk whilst moving steering wheel

Car  BMW E30 325iiiiii
when im sitting still and wiggle my steering back an forth, i hear a light clunk when i do so, am i right in saying this wood be the track rod end?

Cheers

lol. if it'll do it whilst the car's stationary, get someone to sit in it and reproduce the sound whilst you get down and find out where it's coming from. could be a few things (assuming it's actually the steering) - track rod ends, track rods, rack bushes, rack itself, lower column UJ, upper column UJ, etc

First thing i'd look at would be track rod ends yes as they don't tend to last forever. But needs a proper check really as Henry says.

Did you find out what this was as mines started doing the same?

Can someone explain what I need to do to check everything in Henrys list?

if it will do it whilst the car's stationary, it'd be much easier to trace than otherwise (and especially if you've access to a ramp/pit). if not, you'd probably have to resort to feeling for play by levering, or disconnecting/removing bits to check for wear

it could just be that the rack clamps need tightening, as they seem to allow a 'cracking' noise if they're not very tight
