clutch a bit 'thumpy' when cold

As above, I'm a new owner so I have no idea if this is normal.
But I have noticed the last few weeks the from cold the clutch is very 'thumpy' in the first two gears.
is this normal, or should I learn to drive ?
no sychro grinding or anything else so the box seems fine.
