Clutch and steering Probs !!!

When Im doing a 3 point turn or similar manoeuvre on full lock I get a screeching/grinding noise like my wheels are rubbing [but dont] is this my power steering belt and how easy is it to replace ??

Im also still getting a knocking noise from the passenger side of the car which is louder and more frequent after thrashing it, would this be something to do with my clutch, I can feel the knocking through the pedal, any ideas as Ive never heard of a knocking clutch ?

Cheers everyone !

Have the same squeaking problem with mine, believe it is just the belt slipping but havent got round to doing anything yet, tooo busy at work

Ive not got a squeaking, its a screeching which has got worse, like the cars being grounded or something thats why Im a bit worried, only seems to do it on full lock at low speeds though ? Im sure the kocking is to do with my clutch as I feel it through the pedal and its that side, not a car expert though so was after ideas ? Thanks for the reply though!

i have a problem with my vlaver when on full lock to the left and like yours it only happens at slow speed..

The car was lowered 40 mm about 4 years ago and the noise only became apparent when i got a new steering rack fitted..

Not sure if these are related though as i am going to change the suspension and see if it is just a weak spring or something???

mike, my sqeauking is more like a screehing. u notice it when at lower speeds? if u listen out when driving along then u should still here it (sounds more like a rubbing noise when driving along though).

lee reference your prob... is it when its on full lock to the right?? if yeah then if u look in the wheel arch theres a plastic cover which covers the gearbox/engine. check that its not loose or broken. mine is and its grinding on that on full lock.

hope this helps??????

The screeching will probably be the power steering pump relase valve thingy and is apparently a harmless noise that isnt worth having fixed. As for the knocking, it could be the suspension strut top mount, wheel bearing, CV joint, track rod ends or engine mountings.

Ok thanks a lot, will have a look at all these this weekend. Why does this release valve decide to screech all of a sudden, it never used to, everyone looks round at you like youre trying to kidnap someone !! Would the wheel bearings/engine mounts etc still knock when idling, it never does it when accelerating, just when you come to a stand still after giving it a booting ?

Cheers !

Cheers Richy22 !! had a look in my passenger wheel arch and the wheel has been rubbing on that cover and actually made a hole in it now, which is why its been getting louder as the wheel is ripping into the plastic !!! Result as I thought it was the steering rack, can I take this cover off [it must be there for a reason], what else can I do to stop the wheel hitting it ? Im on 17s by the way. Still no joy on the knocking noise though.

Thanks again !

I believe the cover is there to protect the sump and gearbox, u could take it off but at your own risk, might do some damage to gearbox or something?? mines the same (got hole in it) was gonna buy a new one coz i think over time the cover has been bent and fooked. I dont know if adding spacers might help you, depends if youve got the correct offset.
