Clutch cable on MK1

  E36 328
I've got a MK1 1.4 clio S and on friday night the clutch cable snapped :S, got a new one fitted yesterday, but now it crunches LIKKKEEE A BIIITCH goin into reverse, usually wont even go in, an most of the time wont go into first, iv read on older posts on here that it could be the ratchet on the clutch pedal but iv looked at the pedals an how do i know if it's the ratchet or not? btw before anyone asks, yes the clutch is fine, pretty new i think, an it worked PERFECTLY before, jus reeeheeeleee gettin on ma tits now!!!!!

Thanks xxxxx

I think there was a recent post about this but I can't remember now lol

Mine did the same and I had to switch off to get it into reverse, then start it with it in gear and the clutch down LoL

I think it's a self-adjusting mechanism though - mine certainly fixed itself :)

It might be because a non-geniune Renault cable has been fitted. Just a thought. They MUST be genuine cables.

Sorry to hear that M8, so it might be a duff cable. Have you got the receipt, it might give you a clue - it might quote the part number they used.

Now, you can only really ask him if he did! lol

Mine took a week or so I think, just have to drive it and drive round it for a while lol

Was difficult getting into first too though - try putting it in 2nd then forward into first, as that helped a bit.

Though I was sometimes going 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 to get it to go in LOL

hahah i never thought of that actaully!!
thanks for that il definitely try that and let people know if it works, not that anyone cares but il write it anyway haha

You need to have the teeth of the ratchet check the garage should have done it there common to go with cables only a few quid for new ones and say half and hour to fit. just a bit of a bugger to do.
