Clutch cables dont you just...

LOVE them!!!!

Was on my way back from Lancaster and on a country lane just about to change gear and...snap!

Also battery went on mobile and so had to walk and borrow someones phone, what a coincidence!

Rang RAC and they came and fitted a tempory which is quite good, glad I joined now anyway!

Im just wanting to know how often have people have had these snapping on their valvers and willies and how easy are they to change?

Cheers

I snapped one on my first Five and after that I went through another two until the third one which I had fitted by a mate who new Fives inside out and it never snapped again, so I presume it would be the same, as long as they are fitted spot on youll be fine.

And the Five was a tw*t to fit, my mate who did it is like a matchstick and u wouldnt believe the position he managed to get himself into in the drivers footwell to feed it through properly.

Yeah, quite common from what ive heard. Theres apparently a rite way and a wrong way to route them...not that thats much consolation when your stuck in the middle of no-where! lol

haha cheers lads,

so would you reccomend getting it fit by a garage or similar someone who knows what they are doing?

U33db ill get you that email tonight fella sorry been really busy!

And Type_Mo I dont understand mate?

I got a job in a motorcycle shop m8, and the most common things ive found that clutch cables brake the most on vespas

Yeah I had 2 go on my 5GTT over about a 5 year period and luckly I was on the A1 at the time so no problem driving home without clutch and fixing it next day myself.

clutch cables on valvers arent the best ones you could do but im sure youll manage it. they snap a lot when they are routed wrong or the pedal gets heavy due to an old clutch.

snap fella, are u gonna fix yours yourself craig?

Cheers for the info, might try and do it myself with someone who knows what there doing with me!

Theyre a b*****d to fit, I spent a fortune on mine to get it done - coast me £160 alltogether and that wasnt the end!

iv got a cable from halfords for £12. its loads thicker than the one that came out!

the guy said u need to have the whole car raised ideally to get it to fit, as its a bit of a bugger!

my pedal is fooked as well where the end of the cable connects!

start a new job tomorro as well, got no bloody car!

the blokes talking b****cks!! all u need to do is...

1. undo the old cable in stages checking the route, and then start to place the new cable exactly the same

2. u will need to take the heat shield of to route it along the back (those clips are a b*****d to get em in)

3. push the cable up into the footwell bit

4. clip over top of pedal (hanes is usefull here)

5. job done

no car raising needed!!!

you do need to jack it up as the cables clips to the subframe at the back. the pedals are right tw*ts i hate doing them.

Flippen heck, why was it that expensive?

The cable only costs about 30 from renault doesnt it?
It had smashed the cable clipper onner (how technical!) too, I had to have a whole new clutch pedal fitted - Think it was just an expensive garage really oh plus I had to pay fot towing and overnight parking, I was moving house that day and had my 32"panasonic wide jobby, dvd player speaker etc.. in the back! I totted up it was worth double the car!
