Clutch is making horrible noise. Help!!

Hi,

Today my clutch is making a horrible noise. Wheneve i push down on the clutch pedel a squeeky grinding noise comes. i get the feeling that this is coming from the cable and not the clutch itself. It feels like it is rubbing against somthing. You can hear it from outside and it is reasonably loud and coming from the engine bay.

Any1 else had this?

Any idea what it could be?

come on guys. Somone help as i need it sorted before snetterton and really dont want it breaking down on me.

Im sure Ben R will know!

Bracket behind heat shield may be catching on cable as my accelarator cable did. Check the root of the cable and that there is no foriegn objects under the airbox (where the cable attatches to clutch).

It sounds as if it is cartching or rubbing on something.

Basicly i really, really dont want it to mean anything like my clutch is going as i really cannot afford this right now.

hmmmm......

your gonna have to get a mate to press the clutch and source where its comming from.

Not the pedal and the adjuster is it?

Nah, its comming from outside.

thats what i waas thinking, but its not making any noise when engaged.

If the bearings gone it usualy goes quiet when you press the clutch in.

If ti was a thrust bearing, even when misaligned they can usually live a fairly normal service life.

But i dont think this is the prob.

It only does it when pushing down the clutch. It also doesnt effect anything. It drives just as it did but sounds squeeky.

Does this sound expensive to you?

Expensive, depends.

If its only a linkage prob, no.

If it is the release bearing then the part is cheap, but if you cant do it yourself, you looking at a large labour bill.

I still think its got something to do with the release fork so far.

I think it even does it when the pedel comes back up.

Infact it makes the noise when the pedel is mooving. If you hold the clutch down it is fine.

Cheers for this Ben

yup, sounds like a cable/fork problem.

youll have to get a mate to push teh clutch whilst you listen about.

cheers geezer for the help.

Will look at it later today and will let you know whats wrong with it at some mad time in the early hrs of tomorrow morning.

I hope it is. Funny how it has just started happening. The squeek is deffinatly coming from the bay as you can hear it a lot better outside the car.

hope someone can help me too - a couple of weeks back i was driving and found i couldnt get into gear. Even with a lot of force it just wasnt shifting. If i turned the engine off put it into gear, then started it up it made a pdddddd sound. So i changed the clutch cable and the pedal assembly. This allowed me to get it in gear, but the noise persisited. It was also accompanied by a judder which got progressively worse the longer you left it in gear.
