Cheers for the help guys!

I will be using the clutch alignment tool so that should have it spot on yeah?

I'm hoping that I will be able to figure out where things go, I cant go too far wrong I suppose. Lets hope there's no bolts left over!

That's all the bits back on apart from driveshafts, battery etc...

What I have done though is sheared my upper engine mount in two. The rubber and the centre bolt have ripped apart. Also the upper gearbox mount will not undo, again the centre bolt is just twisting in the rubber then springing back.

Does anybody know part numbers and prices for the upper engine, upper gearbox and lower gearbox mounts? Not the dogbone as I have that poly bushed.

Also, do I have to remove the subframe to replace the lower mount? It is still in one piece but very soft rubber.

Thanks for all the help folks.

Ok a big thanks to Jamie (jezza). I have the mount from him already. Top service...

Is it normal to have great difficulty undoing the centre bolt of the top box mount? I am using a 2ft bar and putting quite a lot into it and will not undo. It just twist with the rubber then springs back. I suppose as its still in one piece I can just leave it just now eh.

Also, The bottom box mount. Is this supposed to be quite a soft rubber as I can manipulate it by hand!

Cheers again

I had the same trouble, you can't just undo the top nut. Take the mount off from the gearbox, there is 3 awkward bolts to undo. The bolt through the rubber mount has spanner flats on it inside the rubber, I ended up burning the rubber away in order to remove the centre bolt

You can undo just the top nut.

Get an impact gun on it. Or spanner from underneath.

The Clio is home, new clutch fitted.

However, the noise is still there!

When I removed the release bearing it was noisy and grating. New clutch kit hasn't solved the issue.
I have had a mechanic friend come and listen to it this evening, he lay under the car with the engine running and squeaking away. His first suggestion was that the noise is coming from the sump and recon sit could be oil pump related!

Anyone care to suggest what else it could be? No drivability issue, just noise. Video earlier in thread.

Cheers, Dave.

Update! The noise is away.

Today I discovered that I had a blocked breather. I need to either get a new breather filter or an oil catch tank.

I had been advised that the noise my car was making was a noisy clutch release bearing. I replaced my clutch kit which obviously did not solve the issue.

The blocked breather was straining the oil pump which in turn chirped away to itself.

I am disappointed that I had been given the wrong advice but hey, I am glad to be able to ask for advice and It was my choice to listen.

I now have a new clutch!

Any recommendations on a new breather filter or oil catch tank???

Cheers
Dave.

Thanks for the advice on sub frame mount bolt /nut Dave, tackled that today 18mm spanner as you said an now Nipped up nicely.
How long did the clutch change take in total? Saying all bits not broken straight swap how long would you say start to finish?
Cheers scott :)

No problem at all mate, glad to help.

This was my first ever clutch change. I did have help from my friendly mechanic and we done it over the course of 3 evenings. All in probably around 12-15 hours including lots of f**king about.

This was all done on two axle stands, fortunately indoors!

Shall have to write my guide up when i get chance.

Can get the gearbox out the top with suspension ,calipers, bumper, slam panel ,radiator etc and clutch all still in situ;)

Then put the wheels back on and shut the bonnet only odd looking thing then is two axle stands underneath.

I actually find the mk2 has more room to manouvre the box than the mk1.

Everyone does it different and gains speed with their method.tbf i looked at Budgies guide to initially help me. But they are no different to a mk1
