Clutch pedal-not enough travel

Had a chat today with a guy who used to race a 172 and knows these cars, then went at his garage and after he took some measurements the conclusion was that my clutch pedal sits about 2-2,5 cm lower (another lad had his 172 nearby to compare). it looks like the whole pedal assembly sits lower for some reason (maybe an accident I don't know about since I got the car at 13k) and the only way it could be investigated is to completely remove dash+steering wheel, airbag and so on and see what's what.
Is there a guide for doing this? I know it's a bit tricky and time consuming, and don't wanna mess with the thing without knowing

i'd think a stretched cable would be the most likely and most obvious thing to look at first

had the cable checked a while ago and it's fine. pedal sits clearly lower than it should
