clutch problem

  Fabia VRS Special Ed
I don't have the greatest knowledge when it comes to the engine etc part of the car, but over the last couple of days I noticed that my clutch felt really wierd.

It was quite stiff to depress and it felt really crunchy, tonight when I was driving home anytime I went over 20mph in any gear up to 5th, it was just revving but no power was going anywhere.

Does this mean my clutch has gone? Sorry to be a pain, but I couldn't find anything when I searched :(

Thanks in advance
Liam

So the revs were going up, but no physical acceleration? Clutch is slipping, if so.

yeah, as if it was wheel spinning but it clearly wasn't :|

What does that mean? New clutch?

Thanks btw

I'd imagine so, yeah. Clutch kit's about £100, but most of the cost will be labour. ):

ffs. 3 days before christmas and I need the car :|

Worth a crack myself do you think or just go to a garage?

I've done a few myself. It's not rocket science. All depends how handy you are with the spanners! :)

did it get any better when it warmed up? the stiff pedal and slipping clutch suggest something is physically stuck to me, maybe even frozen up

I'm handy with a spanner, I'll buy myself a manual lol.

I went out for about 30 mins and I didn't notice it get better, as soon as I got home I popped the bonnet and pulled the clutch cable to see if it was getting stuck or anything...It was dark though so couldn't really tell.

Rang up a couple of garages this morning and they're all quoting £400 + which I think sounds a bit steep, I know it's a big job.

Got it to a garage this morning, they told me it should be ready for tomorrow for £230 + VAT which I think is quite reasonable.

They rang my a minute ago, however, to tell me my speedo wasn't working...Anyone got any ideas?
