My local alarm specialists seem to know what they are talking about...except that they disagree with each other completely!
So I thought Id ask you guys instead. I dont HAVE to have a Thatcham alarm for my Clio and Direct Line wont reduce my policy (tight gits) if I get one but I figure it would be better because a) its probably a better alarm and b) I may get a discount elsewhere when I renew. I was thinking about a 2:1 upgrade that uses the key and doesnt need a new remote.
Dealer1 said: Get a Clifford Arrow. They arent Thatcham and they arent an upgrade but you get a single circuit immobiliser (why I need one when the car has one already thats Thatcham 2 I dont know). He recommended a Microwave sensor and it came to 300 quid fitted with window closure module. Now from what I know of alarms from when I worked for BMW microwaves were designed for vans and convertibles?
Dealer2 said: Get the Cobra 2:1 upgrade and ultrasonics. You get an insurance certificate and the system uses the original Reno key. Window closure and electronic tilt and it comes to 380 all in. He also said that the Cobra alarms were Renault approved and said Microwave was no good because internal coverage was not as good.
Im inclined to believe Dealer 2, oppinions please 1, 2 or shoudl I go elsewhere for something else altogether?
