coil pack advice sought

  Clio Sport 1.2 16V
ON friday I had a problem with my car where it felt like I was driving in third gear all the time and the emiisisons warning light on the speedo came on and flashed.

It was siggested by several that this could be the copil pack so I went out this morn to change it and the fault seemed much better - i had a loty more power although the car stil seemed "lumpy" whilst accelarating.

Now the emmissions light stay on constantly.

I have just finished changing the plugs and before I fitted the coil pack I wouldnt mind a few opinions if this might still be the coils since the fault seems to have righted itself to an extent.

Im not wanting to fit the coil pack if i dont have to.

Also does the warning light stay illuminated until reset even if a fault has cleared or does this mean that a fault still exists.

All help and info appreciated

Mike

When I get out the car and walk away? - it makes a kind of metalic ticking noise but its always done that after I get out the car after driving it for a long distance.

Ive just been for a good drive with the new plugs in and its seems perfect - best its ran in months and there is absolutely no sign of the oringal fault apart from the light staying on.

Until this morn the light was only flashing now its on constantly.

ANy thoughts?

The metallic click noise after driving it for a long time is normal, jus coz the metals hot. Av they dun a diagnostic test? they did one on mine n wen one thing was fixed a new code wud cum up

I changed the plugs on Tuesday - the car ran like a dream all week but started acting up again on Saturday. Not as bad as the first time but its obvious the fault is still there.

If the coil pack is knackered would the fault be intermittent?

Also, does anyone have any idea what could be causing it - im a bit curious as to why changing the plugs sorted it but only for a few days.

Hmmm sounds definately electrical mike.

Is the emissions/toxic warning light still stuck on?

After changing the plugs on Tuesday the car ran like a dream and the light went off after driving to renault to return coil pack.

Since Tuesday the car had been running great - done about 300 miles not even a hint of the problem.

On Saturday it started acting up again - not at severe as the first time and the light has only briefly flashed on and off but mostly the light remains off now.

Im a bit confused at to what could be causing the problem - Im thinking maybe the HT leads or the connecting wires to the coil pack.

if the light is still on its because the fault is still logged by the ecu, even tho you have mechanically fixed it. you need to get it on a diagnostic scanner and get the fault code wiped

The car was running fine from last tuesday till Sat and the light has went out.

The main problem now is the car is showing signs of acting up again.

Im confused as to whether the fault is the coil pack or not since it appears to be an intermittent fault

When i tried the plugs and they seemed to do the trickl I returned the coil pack to the garage.

Bought another one today and fitted it. Seems to do the trick now but then again so did the plugs.

Car is making a kind of blowing noise out the exhaust and a kind os hissing from the engine when I accelatrate.

It wasnt running right when driving home so im thinking its maybe just something to do with that and hopefully it will right itself.

Fingers crossed.

Sounds to me you have a hole in your exhaust.

Probably the clamp which holds cat to centre section.

If its blowing badly it will effect ur car lots. Get it down to an exhaust centre for a free check ;)
