Coil pack gone

  Clio II 1.6 16v 2 Doors
Checked the cable? Try to swap the cable and see if the cilinder works, if positive, change the cable and be happy.

Regards!

If its definately running on three cyls then its not the coil pack. Coil pack only has two coils in it as the 172's run wasted spark. Hence if your coil pack had failed then you'd be two cyls down. Not just one.

Check injector plugs/condition and operation (with tell tale), then plugs and leads, then compression test to identify the issue

If you're not sure if its running on two or three cyls then best check the spark the pack is producing on no 1 and no 2. If they are the same intensity then both coils in the pack and both drivers in the ECU are working. If no 2 is weaker than 1 or vice versa its most likely a coil pack issue.

Cheers

Also it could be a HT (high tension) lead or spark plugs.

As said abive, by pulling the leads you can usualy use the process of elimination to find out what the problem is.

Is the engine managment light on per-chance?

slightly off-topic but how do you know when a coil pack has gone?

cheers

The car will struggle to make power i.e it will struggle when trying to accelerate. It sounds as if it might be about to cut out also.

Wouldnt advise driving a car with 3 cylinders, you could damage injectors

mine's like that but only sometimes - judders a lot and often if i put my foot down it will hesitate and then go like normal, is this likely to be my coil pack?

sorry to hijack thread but i might have found the root of an extremely annoying problem!

does sound like your coil pack, mine has went twice and varied both times,

1st time ran on 3 cylinders , slow and very chuggy (1 coil pack faulty )

2nd time ran on 2 cylinders, same thing again ( 2 coil packs faulty )

how to check : Start the car, take engine cover off, remove each lead one at a time, if car still runs then you have a faulty lead, if you pull one of the leads out and car stops running you have a good coil....my advice replace the heap, i have found that it will happen again quicker if the heap isnt changed due to strain on the good ones...so ive been told my a renault mechanic, prices vary from 34 to 70 ods have a look around. BTW dont go to RENAULT they charge and arm and leg. Very easy job to do... an amature could easily do it.

Not so sure if it is the coil pack on yours tbh.

It sounds more like a spark plug problem to me mate, if it were a coil pack then it would be all the time.

When was your car last serviced?
