coil packs..........

i might be a bit slow on the up take here so bare with me!

i just heard about a bad batch of renault coil packs! (they sit on top of the spark plugs and have a conection to them with a little traslucent plug)

i have been told renault sent quite a few cars out with these faulty coil packs that give up after a while causing the car to run on 3 cylinders (not good)

symptoms are like a damp ht lead etc! my RAC mate ses he gets called out to cars (clio, megans mainly) from w reg all the way to the new cars today (53 plates)

(for cars u just bought!)

90% of the time when they get changed they are white (standard are black) so if u got at least one white one u have got a bad set and will most prob end up havin that problem!)

any one had this problem and do they know wot renault say wen u fone up and complain?

this problem has plagued volkswagon for the least 4 years, for them its a design fault that has resulted in them paying 100grand a day in courtesy cars bills, people having cars stuck at dealers for weeks due to having no new packs inthe country... they know that the coil packs are duff but they will only replace them one at a time when they go, I think you have eithr 6 or 8 , so thats up to 8 trips to the garage.. the company that made them went bankrupt and volkwagon had to buy them to continue to provide fixed coil packs,, it mainly the 1.8 turbo engine thats used accross audi, skoda, vw etc and is the main reason why im not driving a golf today.. lets hope this isnt the start of a big problem for renos!!!!

theyve had problems with coils since the new generation 16v engine came out.the new coils have also been known to fail.new coils on 1.4 and 1.6 have grey tops.new coils for 1.8 and 2.0 are black like the originals.it seems to be the 1.4 and 1.6 engines that have the most coil problems.
