colour codeing bumpstrips

I was just wondering if you can take the plastic side bumpstrips off a mk 1 172 to colour code them yourself or are they bonded on and have to be left on,your help will be much appreciated.

they can be removed, but when doind it be very careful as it is easy to warp/snap/bend them and the clips snap off frequently, may just be better buying them straight from reno then painting them yourself
