Colour Coding - £280

Good afternoon boys and girls,

Ive got a 2002 1.2 16v and want the bump strips colour coding, similar to the 172. One of my mates gave me a body shop number, so I rang them and they said because you have to take the bumpers off to remove the black bump strips its gonna cost me £280! I nearly dropped my mobile!

Do you have to take the bumpers off to remove the bump strips?

Does anyone know of a cheaper place? Im from Mancheser?

Cheers

nope, you can remove the bump strips without removing the bumpers, but it is a hell of a lot easier to do with the bumpers off

just phones around all the bodyshops in your area, and see what everyone elses prices are, and how they relate

thats a full color code

spoiler handles strips etc etc

Depends how good a bodyshop it is. They may want to blend in the new paintwork with surrounding panels so after a year or so it wont look iffy which they undoubtedly will if you just paint the plastic bits by themselves...

I was quoted £300 by my bodyshop they didnt have to take off any of it except the spoiler. Apparently the used a special type of sealant or something so they could gurantee 1 year no chipping...anyways i got it for 250 luckily, couldnt b happier with the work. But mine isnt smoothed just colour coded...including all strip spoiler and handles...

Just got off the phone to a paint shop, and theyve quoted about £100ish. Theyre not going to remove the side strips or bump strips - just paint them.

Is this a good idea/price? I think the price is good.

id say 200 to do everything was a fair price. i got renault to do my front and rear bumpers when i was having my car repaired and they only charged me 75 bucks! and what a job those cheeky monkeys did

I wish I could get mine done for those sort of prices! I want my car fully colour coded and the cheapest price Ive got is £450! I havent asked my renualt dealer yet though, I was kinda putting it off!

right, what reno charge: £175 inc VAT for front bumper/back bumper/side strips......spoiler is an extra £65..door handles £45

does anyone have the boot button and the plastic holder for the mirrors?

Careful peeps....I got a good deal on mine, cos they were doing some work on the car at same time but less than a year on and the front bumper is sh*t, loads of chips and marks, a couple of peel marks on the side strips. Try and get recommendations to bodyshops from people that have use them. For anyone in Devon, there is a fantastic bodyshop called Fairweather Auto Shine in Exeter, approved Aston Martin so...!!! Thats where mine is going into for sorting out the colour coding etc.

Make sure that when they do it they are going to apply a filler/sealant type stuff to minimise the appearance of the bobbled look. Although a little bit of the look does look well cool. And I would assume that if they are not removing the side strips then the paint is not going to get right into the edges and the corners so it will show and look crap when you look close. And aside from anything else taking the side strips off is the biggest piece of pi$s in the world! Mine used to come off by accident when I was washing it!! Now however they are sealed on somehow to stop the vibrations from the bass!!

Good luck

just had a quote from Renault... same as above, front / rear bumper, door handles, mirror surrounds, spoiler and side strips .....

£660.....
