Colour Deteriation

How long does a cars colour keep its original colour before it starts to fade? and does it depend on colour?

The reason I ask is I want to spray my front bumper and im worried it wont match up to the rest of the car - its a 1996 N in Naples Red and ive heard stories of heavy fading of red cars!

depends on how it is maintained, weather conditions, storage conditions and about 1000 other things

basically it is a lottery, but 10-15 years is about right

If you goto a colour match place.. they will have all the colours from renault.. and they can then match the colour to the amount of sun its had.. using a little chart, you can the get the correct paint colour.

Red does fade due to pigments in the paint. There are many factors inc Acid rain, salt, etc etc.....that increase paint fade .

Any good bodywork shop will easily match your paint to the correct shade etc.........

So the guy who told me I had to have basically the whole car doing to get a match was trying to get more hard earned out of me?

The thing is Im a little short on money at the moment and have a zillion and one things to do on the car/house etc.. but one I want doing is the bumper - its a bit of an eyesore and doesnt do the rest of the car justice!

Will I still beable to match up the colour if im doing bits here and there?

Sorry if its a dumb question but i dont want people noticing Ive had work done.

Thanks

**update if it helps the guy who owned it from new said it had been garaged all its life and it does look as dark as I remember them being in the showroom all those years ago!**

only problem lies with the fact that if you do the bumper, the rest of the panels will still not match as they will have oxidised

bes bet is to get it all done at the same time

When i f**ked up my boot door and bumper, i took the car to the colour match place, he got out the chart, and moved it up and down to get the right colour from the rear quarter pannel.. this then get the right colour, then all my sprayer had to do was blend it in a little, you couldnt tell. The only reason someone ever noticed is because he lifted up the carpet in the boot.
