Common faults on the 172 cup

  renault clio 172 cup
I'm in the process of buying my brother in laws clio 172 cup and was wondering if there's any common problems with these cars? The last car i've had like this was a Pug 205 1.9 GTI many years ago.

Any advice or help would be great

Cam and aux belts being done very soon,it's only covered just over 40k on a 2003 plate,is in trophy blue.Wheels refurbed, new genuine renault back box and continental tyres. Doesn't get driven that often to be honest and Bro in law has owned it for around 3.5 yrs and covered 6k!

Is a nice one, straight, and goes well. Could do with a good service i reckon. Got to wait till april till i get my hands on it:(

its monial blue and belts are 1 year over due. ( 5 years or 72k) but what you say sounds nice,

how come you have got to wait so long?:dapprove:

Since owning mine 8months I did the cam & aux purely because it needed doing.

New hazard switch.
New CV Boot.

Nothing else so far! Just general things like tyres etc.

there seem to be a bunch of common problems that lots of people have; not limited to any particular model, just common to the RS Clio 2s

engine mounts, leaking dampers, snapped springs, 'loose' top mounts, corroded exhausts, tatty steering wheels, gearbox bother (if you're unlucky), erm.. probably enough there already, but doubtless a few other things

nowhere near as strong (mechanically) as a good GTi IMO. engines seem good though, which is just as well

Isn't there a note in the testers manual to state these cars have poor rear brakeing effort for a reason...
