Comparing SSD's

Just out of interest can someone explain why, out of these two drives, the DC S3500 costs £30 more when it is so much slower?

Intel 530 Series 120GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive

Intel DC S3500 Wolfsville Series 20nm 120GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s

Do not buy the one in the first link. It has a sandforce controller and will probably s**t itself in the first 6 months

I've RMA'd 3 sdd's with a SandForce controller now that were no older than 3 months!

As above, Sandforce - avoid like the plague, get the second one or a Samsung 840 .

Just go for a Samsung 840, good SSD at a good price with a Controller that won't crap itself within a few days/months.

Yeah the 840's are my favourite (I use the 840 Pro's). However the intel controller based intels are good too!

as above, I bombed 2 sandforces few years back when they were really dodgy so I'd avoid

Samsung's are a good shout, use them at work a lot now and very very reliable

Had a ocz vertex 3 sandforce for about a year, not one problem *touches wood*. Im probably in the minority though :approve:

But, yeah Samsung seem the most popular atm. No one bother with the good old Crucial M4's anymore?

Just a thumbs up for Samsung 840's again - worked flawlessly so far in my workstations in the office and also now in the home PC.

I hope you keep your data backed up, just for info both ocz drives we had failed, and then one of the replacements failed too!

I've got two Sandforce 120GB Corsairs, one was replaced within about 6 months and has been fine since, the other has always been fine.

I've also got two Samsung Pro 256GBs and just bought a Samsung EVO 1TB for one of my servers, all working faultlessly so far.

Crucial M4's are nice but Samsung ones are slightly better for around the same dollar, I moved from a Crucial to Samsung based on that (when I upgraded and double the size)

I've had issues with Crucial's, the standard 2.5" don't like Lenovo laptops and cause all sorts of issues and same goes for the mSATA version in Toshiba ultrabooks. so stick to Samsung now
