Evening geeks.

I have just seen an advert on telly for a computer game and it looks epic. I want one.

Can someone explain it to me how I go about wiring one up so I can play my friends online? (Is that even how it works??)

Whats the best console to get??

I like war and cars btw.

For the games you like, at the moment it has to be Xbox 360. Forza 3 and modern warfare 2 wise. I love the PS3 but there are no decent driving games IMO yet.

As far as getting online, plug a network cable straight into your router, purchase a live membership, add your friends gamertags and off you go. Simples.

What game did you see?

lol, yeah major can of worms. You're welcome to drag your carrot crunching ass down the M4 a couple of junctions and have a bash on my PS3 and xbox if you want to make your own mind up fella. Everyone on here has their preferences so you'll be unlikely to get an unbiased view on here.

I reckon the advert was for modern warfare 2...

Yes, xbox 360 from game or hmv or something for £200, then get a network cable and plug it into your router to the console. You buy a subscription card thingy from the shop to use 'xbox live' for a year, enter the codes in or some doodle, and voila.

Chappers - good point. Get which one your friends have!

Thanks Si, although the drive to your house will probably last longer than my attention span for a computer....

I think the game I saw was Modern War 2 or something? Was advertised with an Xbox 360 for £159.99. That sound like a good price??

My Router is about 6-7 feet away from the telly... AHA! Telly, thats another thing. Its a 42 inch Sony LCD but it was quite cheap. Does this matter?? I don't want to have to buy another if it won't work.

My mates don't do computer so I'll be getting my ass kicked mainly by strangers or the losers off here.

Just saw the ad again, Call of ''Doody'' (f**king yanks) Modern Warfare 2. Looks the absolute tits.

Means you wont need to buy the rip off wireless adaptor, can just use an Ethernet cable and plug it into your router & the other end into the console.

I could probably send you one if you wanted, got a few lying around somewhere!

So you'll just need an xbox, game & xbox live membership!

Edit/ oooh and a headset if you wanna be a real geek ;)

You'll be ok if it's that close just run an ethernet cable to the xbox, only reason I asked is if you're looking to get online and your router was the other end of the house you'd need to factor in a wireless adaptor for xbox into the cost.

I have an xbox360 and I love it. My m8 has a PS3 and doesn't play on it much so I might offer to buy it when Gran Turismo 5 comes out (IMO it's a valid reason to buy a PS3).

TBH, if you want to play friends online, then just buy whatever console they (or most of them have).

For the games that are out at present, i don't think there is much difference between the 2. The Xbox360 is pretty cheap in comparison to the PS3, but the PS3 does have a blu-ray player.

If you don't have a HD TV, then buy one, it's much better with one. (scrap that, just saw your other post)

There is also the Wii, but (IMO) it's not a best suited to palying friends online (except Mario Cart), my Wii is used mostly for when friends come over to the house.

I buy my xbox membership from ebay, much cheaper than microsoft. I think the PS3 online play is free.

FPS = first person shooter.

Headset is required so you can question the sexual preference/parentage or simply call 13 year old american kids who've just shot you c*nts
