Only time I've ever had that was when my CPU was overheating, just as XP started kicking in, due to the extra CPU Usage XP requires over BIOS booting.

You may be able to find exact beep codes by googling with your M/B manufacturer name and 'beep code'

You cant just take a HD out of one computer and boot it from another, 98% of the time.

im sure you can

Haven't done, although thinking about it, I've never done it with XP. So I'm probably talking crap as usual.

No, you're right - providing that you've plugged it into a "normal" IDE socket or one which windows has drivers for, plug it into something exotic for which there are no drivers on the installation and it wont work.

ive rarely had problems changing hard drives over. installed the OS on one system and moved the HD to another to run it there.

Whats could be the reason mine dont?

Sorry, I should have been more accurate, you can and it will work most times unless the hardware is radically different, in which case you would be better off starting from scratch ;)
