Controlling a cup in the wet.....

Yeah obviously that must be it .

ERRRRRRR NOT!!!!!!!!!!!

Considering I have had mine a year and have not even locked up, skidded been even near to a smash and niether has my Girlfriend and she's female lol

Did i say you and your missus? I think you'll find i didnt.

The fact remains that there are several insurance companies that will not offer cover for Cups, this is due to the percentage that are written off. As it's been said by plenty of people that a lack of ABS does not make a car dangerous then it stands to reason it's the tool behind the steering wheel thats the issue!

Why do you take comments about Cup drivers (in general) so personally? You can't argue with the statistics. Why do you think some insurance company's won't touch them? ;)

(I am not saying you fit that stereotype btw)

EDIT: I wrote that before I saw Loony's reply!

What Insurance companies would that be ????????

Every quote I have had has been fine mate, and I was only 19 when i got the Cup.

True bout the driver but then again it goes for every car and every type of driver tarnishing everyone with the same brush is not right.

glad you have not done that though of course some Cup drivers are maniacs but some FF's too.

IIRC Greenlight for starters but I've seen loads of threads on here in the past where people have had issues getting cover.

When i insured my 182 they list as a 2.0 clio not 172/182 and they started getting twitchy asking if i had the cup model when i tried to explain the cup suspension pack. This is a company who when i asked about rollcages said "yeah no problem we can offer cover on that"

I forget the percentage mentioned by neil at greenlight but he said how many cup claims result in a total loss and it was a crazy amount.

I'm not tarring everyone with the same brush and I'm more than aware there are many highly skilled drivers who own cups on here. However you cant argue with insurance company stats just to defend your own ability (when it wasnt even being questioned i hasten to add)

Endsleigh (sp) IIRC would'nt insure anyone under 25 (called them as my parents are insured by them)

There were others too (that I can't remember off the top of my head) which either said "over 25's only" or quoted nearly £3k! - which gives me the feeling they were'nt too interested in my business!! I'm 23 btw

Didn't know that mate can't believe the Number:eek:s . I know you wasn't scrutinising my driving. I didn't word it in the best of terms.

I feel if your going to have a smash it's going to happen what ever car your in if you drive like a Muppet.

It's just a shame such a nice limited edition car is bloddy vanishing quicker than the Ozone layer;)

I know somebody considering selling their 172 cup to get a 182 as it would save him £1k for insurance! Absolute piss take IMO

3K s**t thats mad and 25 even crazier.

Looks like im lucky im with Admiral and it's £1100 with all mods declared and protected NCB and Im 20 thought that was pretty good considering

I'm with Elephant paying similar with sports cat & cat back declared. What mod's do you have? I planning inlet manifold match and remap at some point, but don't want to send my insurance through the roof!

  Impreza P1
Viper Induction kit and Cat Back System mate.

I would like the same when it comes to manifold matching and remap .

Best thing to do is probably call them and just inquire about it first.

Does the sports cat make any difference to performance/sound just wondered as id love 1

IIRC, the claim value paid out by Greenlight for 172 Cups, was more than ALL other Renaultsport Clios put together.

So that's more paid out on the proper Cup than on the FF172, FF182, 182 Cup, Trophy, 16v, Williams, V6 MkI, V6 MkII combined...

I just renewed my insurance with Herts Insurance...very modification friendly, and low excess (£500) non-competitive trackday cover included for not too much more money.

Can't tell you for sure - I had it put on at K-tec at the same time as a K-tec stealth cat back. The whole system definately made the car feel more responsive/rev hungry.

I reckon the sports cat does make it louder and more boomy/resonant because I found the K-tec stealth back box too boomy at low revs/normal driving - when many people had said it was nice and subtle (thats why I picked it); it probably is with a normal cat.

I replaced the K-tec stealth with a Prospeed stealth which is much better (Charlie at Prospeed seemed to think the sports cat does increase boomyness). Now the exhaust system is perfect IMO not too intrusive at low revs but sounds wicked when you rag it

Cool mate ill bear that in mind about the system mine is a 2.5inch custom system cut into the bumper with a 182 surround done by BB Tuning.

Sound nice at Low revs again not to boomy but then roars at High revs

Might be because the people who buy cups want to go faster than people who buy FF. Then again alot of people drive round in cups because they were the cheaper option.

I say it's down to the attitudes of drivers in the cups that sees them have more accidents when the margin for error is smaller in the winter.

So all cup drivers are either tight arses or like a more driveable car.

Bring on the sarcastic remarks........

  Weeman sucks ****
lol at this thread. Next week, lets talk about something worthwhile and learn to drive a light car!

I do agree

I fitted a Janspeed sports cat and it did increse the exhaust noise slightly.

As for cups...well, like people have said on here, insurance companies have their records and if more are being totalled the premiums go up...simple.

  RS RIP
Have been trying again + again to look up the "edge" , just to see how far i can go and which way the car reacts in such a situation. Must say i'm learning , pushing it further every time.

.... also to be prepared for when it does go wrong  !

this car is too easy to throw around into a skid; controlling it's the challenge ;)

I bought my CUP jus for the fact it looks so much better than the standard 172/182's and its more of a status symbol for motorsport enthusiasts!

I have only had it a week an it is a bit hairy in the wet, but I dont drive it like I have just stolen it! I hope it will last me for as long as I want it to!
