Convert DVD to iPod/phone for in-dash display

Alright all.

So, now that the Listerinemachine has got its head unit swapped, I'm trying to find the best way of converting a bunch of my DVDs to play through my iPod. The HU will support anything you can play off of an iThing.

It's got to be a half decent resolution and can hack Dolby 2 (oh, you mean, stereo?).

Running an old AMD Athlon x2 it can't handle much and, being a laptop, it'll sooner shut down and overheat than do any hard work.

Any software suggestions?

Well, I can't get this Handbrake to work.

Stick a DVD in, select it as the source.

It starts to scan it then stops.
