V6 turbo, or maybe twin turbo if i remember right, rare as rocking horse poo to find a road going one, that hasn't been stuffed backwards up a tree by a classic rally driver. Mcrae has one that he used in one of teh irish rallys the other month. In rallycross trim they touched 700-800 hp, all quaifed and X trac's up Brrrrrrr pssssssttttttttt chirp chirp etc etc Fcuking amazing. In England i live 8 miles from Croft and on a clear day on the top of the Golf course you could here them practicing for the rally cross if the wind was blowing in the right direction. LOL

Way cool ... the car that started my love of mid-engined wide-arched small hatchbacks ... hence what I drive now :D.

Normally aspirated as standard tho' ... no turbos. First prototypes ran Rover V8s with 2 cylinders chopped off literally! Engine design ultimately ended up in the Jaguar XJ220!

the only people who would think that was people who did'nt have the slightest intrest in motorsport

I have fond memories of my old man taking me to watch rallies when I was a sprog. The cars that I loved the most was the Lancia Delta, The Stratos, Escort Mexico........and the 6R4.

The 6R4 is a f**king awesome bit of kit:)

Great car, was it or was it not banned for being too quick? (and dangerous)

Group B, which was the class the 6R4 was in, was banned at the end of 1986 from international events following the death of Henri Toivonen and Sergio Cresta who crashed their Lancia Delta S4 which subsequently exploded :dapprove:

The 6R4 is still used in events here, particularly tarmac ones, and it's still fairly competitive for a 22 year old design. And the best sounding rally car ever :D

Engine was the basic 3.5 litre V6 , naturally aspirated, although its not secret that the xj220 is simply a twin turbo'd version of this engine. The swap is relatively speaking easy to do and most used in rally cross are not twin turbo'd

I simply adore the metro 6r4, if i saw one on the road I would faint LOL

and Will Gallops has to be the most extreme I know of, in an autocar 0-100-0 test they used his car and the metro performed the 0-100mph in 4.5 secs and that is no misprint , yes 4.5 seconds to hit 100mph from standstill....... still thats what 900bhp give or take 50 plus a sequential box with close gearing, 4wd and a kerb weight well under a ton does lol
