Coolant in gearbox

Not my Clio, the Mrs' Lupo! Basically I was changing a sensor in the car and all coolant poured out, as it should.

However, I noticed shortly after that there is no cap on the gearbox for where you put the oil in!

Coolant must have gone in, it would be a miracle otherwise. I'm ordering a new cap on Monday and will be doing a gearbox oil change, but I'm wondering... is there a way of getting absolutely everything out of the gearbox allowing me to refill it with purely oil?

Sure thats not a viewing hole of some sort? Looks like a clutch pressure plate (well it does on the phone lol)

Nope it's definitely supposed to have a cap on! Once you remove the cap, a viewing hole. It doesn't have either!

As above it looks like the clutch. The coolant won't have gone in the oil, however the clutch might not like it! On a plus at least it won't rust! ;)

Phew! Thanks lads. I'll still look at getting a cap on it as I'm sure that there's one supposed to be there. For now though, peace of mind will do!

Probably rattled off and down the road if there is supposed to be one?

I would expect it needs the cover to stop dust and dirt getting in there larger plastic cover screws in then a smaller plug into that?

Might be best just ordering one from VW.

The shiny bits you can see at 5-6 o'clock on the hole are actually chips out of the metal where it looks like someone has had a hard time removing the cap (not sure how - it's plastic).

Out of interest, if coolant has gone down into the hole... where has it ended up?

It's a plastic nut type thing so they probably just chiseled it out.

The coolant will have landed on the clutch/flywheel.
