Coolant Temp Sensor (Wire missing ?)

Cars been in with Fred recently and he said that the sensor was on its way out, sure enough he was right and now my gauge isn't giving an accurate reading.

I'm going to go and get a new sensor tomorrow but took the airbox out this morning to see what i was up against, looks easy to replace.

BUT i've noticed something, my sensor only has 2 wires coming off it, a grey one and a purple one but looks like there was a green one at some stage, I've took a pic to show what i mean! Is this right, i'm guessing not.

Ph2 have 2 wire Ph1 have 3 IIRC!

the green peice is a plastic balnker.

correct, ph2 dash is driven off the ECU via CAN

Ph1 is direct drive from the missing wire...
