Wot think?

3 contenders for my dad, either...

1. Alfa 159 2.4Jdtm. A bit of a 'different' company barge. Also flipping gorgeous. Oh and 200bhp (I know, I know, it's a Diesel!).

2. VW Scirocco 2.0TDI 170. His new car, gorgeous and a coupe. There's cool there.

3. Saab 900 Turbo. Cool just because it was described as "Dangerous" to drive. Turbo lag that meant you got a sudden bust of power half way around a bend out pulling out of a junction.

Contenders for my mum:

1. Mk1 Fiesta XR2. Cool because, well, you know.

2. Audi TT 1.8T 180. Just such a nice car to be in, even got to drive it a few times. Not my sort of car but a lot of people consider it cool so I'll throw it in.

So, what about your parents?

  dCi 65 + C2 (<Sold)
My dad had a mk1 golf gti and an E30 M3. Hero. He stopped buying cool cars when I was born...so basically I ruined his life. :)

  Mini Cooper S
My dad owned a Porsche 928S and a MK2 Golf GTi. He also DIY tuned a few Minis. Pretty cool cars?

My mum had a Merc 190E all kitted up and lowered. Was pretty pimp when she had it for a woman.

well apart from 4X4's due to living on a farm all my dad has ever owned since his first car has been Vauxhall SRI's cavalier's, the only two i remember was a gold and a silver one. The silver was my favourite, had it as our family car when I was 5 to when I was about 14, we used to wear out the sports seats all the time and play find a sri at the scrap yard to get the seats out of it! Also had plates welded on the bottom because the suspension was too low for a family of 5 when me and my brothers got too old, scraped on every speed hump no matter what size.

since then it's been a Showgun which is only ever cool when you need to get 6 friends around (get 6 lots of petrol money instead of only 4! and it wasn't my fuel!)

  Whichever has fuel
My dads had some hideous things, mainly owing to company cars.

But the coolest he had (At the time!!!) were a Orion 1600i Ghia, a Cavalier Sri and a Rover 416 Gti.

He once owned a Mini. Proper old thing, it was so rotten you could see the tarmac from inside the car! HHT91k was the reg. Sold it to some wh0re from Tescos.

Dad hasn't really owned a car, he works for Land Rover so has had a new Discovery/RRS every 3 months for about 14 years. Had an S-line A3 Sportback since April '09 now because of tax cuts.

Mum has a green Corsa 1.4 '94, Mum and Dad bought it brand new and now it drinks about 2L of Oil a week as my brother rags the f**k out of it everywhere going back and too to Huddersfield.

My parents have the worst taste in cars every, at the moment they have a jazz and an aygo, bought for reliability over anything else, you can imagine how good it makes me feel telling them my much older much higher mileage clio breaks down less often :rasp:

Contenders for them are:

My old man has had a few:
Currently a mark 2 MX5 which is good fun to borrow and he also has a very loud 1961 Norton motorbike for sunny days - fantastic thing!
Past: Granada 3.0, Capri, MGB Roadster, BMW 525e 2.7 barge and a '49 Riley RMA!

My mum has had some right shockers but used to drive a black 518i when she worked in Bradford back in the day. Someone hit the rear bumper and was too scared to get out of the car thinking it was a drug dealer! She currently wants a MINI Cooper - not a bad effort haha!

  Turbos.
For me, it was my dad's Overfinch 570. The 570 stood for the 5.7 Chevy engine fitted. Had different suspension, brakes whees, tyres etc.

It was absolutely perfect. Was the last of the pre-facelifts without the troublesome air suspension. However, despite being aluminium, it had an oxidisation problem which basically meant it needed a full respray every two years! On the plus side, it looked brand new each time.

Eventually it developed an untraceable electrical fault. It would be fine for months, and then just cut out. It happened on the motorway once, and the final straw was when my mum narrowly avoided an accident when it died at a roundabout. Went back to Land Rover and Overfinch many times to no avail. It was eventually sold to an enthusiastic salesman at our local Land Rover. I think the car must have owed my dad around £100k!

Won't ever forget it! Sounded like a TVR, destroyed most cars in it's day and was my first off road experience....was hilarious turning up to a 4x4 day with these busted old Defenders and we were in a pristine Rangie! It did amazingly well though, but we didn't realise we'd end up knee deep in water...whilst in the car! Miss it loads :( Which i could trace where it was.

Probably the VX. Driven like a c**t from cold and rarely cleaned. Unfortunate for the current owner of the car as it was never run in either.

mother used to have an original mk1 golf gti which she had from new and never sold it,
but the engine decided to implode on her one day leaving the house lol!

fathers coolest car?
Probably a volvo 850 R Estate in white or his current Honda accord diesel Exec.. got the cool auto braking cruise control and lane assist, albeit both have been company cars and I have only driven the accord.

used to have a 'guna sports tourer initiale. contrary to belief only the tyre pressure sensors ever went on it.
