Megane R26
Today's was my toughest yet! < 1 year old German white paint, which was VERY swirly for its age. The paint was ROCK hard...
A few before pics:
I began by cleaning the wheels, tyres and arches with my favourite combination of AS Smart Wheels, G101 and various brushes, including the Envy Wheel Brushes.
I followed this up with AS Actimousse, applied via CYC HD Foam Lance and my Nilfisk E140:
I then:
- Handwashed with Megs Shampoo Plus and CYC Sheepskin Pad
- Tar dealt with by AS Tardis
- Clayed with I4D Orange Clay and Dodo Born Slippy (I forgot how good this was!!!!)
- Rewashed with Shampoo Plus
Then, ready to check the paint:
The average readings were about 200 microns, which most panels being between 190-210. One particular spot on the car however gave us this:
Very odd, but I couldn't find it again! A mis-reading perhaps?
After testing various combinations on the bonnet, I finally settled with Megs #105 and Sonus SFX1 pad. Most panels needed 2 hits to remove the swirling, and even then I would say that I only achieved around 85-90% correction. Time was against me here. I wasn't totally happy with the level of correction, but it was a significant improvement, and most panels were very pleasing, plus the owner was pleased, which is what matters
Corrected pic (I struggled to get any of the swirling):
The car was then treated to Jeffs Acrylic Prime and 3 layers of Acrylic Jett Trigger. Meanwhile, the owner, Tony helped with:
- Cleaning the glass with Megs Glass Concentrate and Dodo Mint Merkin
- Dressing tyres with CG NLTG
- Sealing the wheels with Optimum Opti Seal
- Dressing plastics with 303 Protectant
- He also had done an amazing job polishing his exhausts (removable, which is cheating ), and protecting them with FK #2685 Pink Wax
Today was killer, no more German cars for me in a hurry!!!!
A few afters:
My fave shot:
Thanks for your hospitality Tony It was good to help you out, and thanks for your help :thumb:
Cheers, Russ.
