Cost of a DIY top end rebuild?

Mate's just bought a cheap 182 that's had engine failure due to a belt slipping.

How much roughly would it cost to do a rebuild on the head and then do a belt change?

A 2nd hand engine would be roughly £400-£500 but then he'd need to do the belts on that anyway to be safe so another £300 ish?

Told him not to try doing the belts himself obviously so rough prices anyone?

The failed engine is out of the car now. He's just seeing what damage has been done, but I'm just curious.

(And I know there are loads of threads on this but I'm asking specifically how much for a top end rebuild with the engine out, not an all in job or replacement engine banter)

Cambelt kit 130
Head set 100
head bolts 30 ish
cam seals 10 ish
8 new inlet valves as a minimum repair around a 100
plus various other bits and bobs e.g. coolant

New engine is probably your best bet.

For 400+ I'd expect the engine to have history and recent cambelt, check out the for sale section.

Yeah I thought as such. Cheers will let my mate know and keep my eye out in the FS section for a 182 engine for him.
