counter resetting itself

Since buying my car on the weekend and fueling up before the journey back i thought i'd see how many miles i'd get from a full tank.
Checked on my way this morning and the bloody counter has reset itself, how on earth does it do that?

Normally starts doing it when the battery is on its way out.

yup battery. get it replaced before the weather gets cold. I kept leaving mine and wound up stranded at 5am on a sunday morning when it eventually packed up

kwik fit is about £45-50 mate with a long guarantee as well.
