Cracked abs ring

Car  Clio Sport 172
Hi guys

Not sure if anyone read my previous thread few days ago about an issue i had whilst breaking, i finally got round to checking it over earlier on and found a cracked abs ring on the drivers side front.

Are these replaceable, as im sure i read on a thread the other day that the driveshaft needs replacing!!!

Hiyer mate,

Had my drivers side ABS ring changed not that long ago. Was done by a garage but pretty sure they didnt have to replace the driveshaft, didnt charge me for it anyway.

Jay

How much did it set you back to get it sorted in the gge if you dont mind me asking.

I've seen the rings for sale their only a few quid, might give it a go myself if its going to cost an arm & leg in labour costs

Its dead easy to change the ring, well when watching a professional do it, it looks easy! remove hub but and ball joint from wish bone and the hub pulls away so you can tap a new one on

pretty easy to fit tbh, undo the bolts from the bottom of the shocker and the nut holding the driveshaft in hub. hit the driveshaft out take the old ring off and push the new one on, it will be quite tight going on and might need tapping abit and the driveshaft cleaning up then rebuild. try not to pull the driveshaft out of the gearbox.

make sure you get one with the correct amount of teeth, count yours before buying as 182 ones are different

I Had one not so long ago on a 1.2 and the guy at the garage said it needed a new shaft because 9 times out of ten the ring cracks trying to put it on even when heating it up to make it expand.

SOunds more like they need to clean the shafts up before using new rings.

Still new shafts are easier to fit and more money for the garage.

The rings are interference fit and need some care fitting. You don't need to replace the shaft if the ring breaks. Make sure the faces are thoroughly cleaned with emery paper before fitting the new ring then carefully tap the new one onto the hub working round it evenly so it doesn't stretch it and cause it to break.

I did this job a few weeks ago, please avoid the JR rings on ebay they advertise for the front as there about half the width of the original at 7.5mm and look like the rears fronts are like 15mm. The job its self for a nightmare for me lol everything was siezed ended cutting the old rusty ring (oow ahh) off with a grinder then refacing with my dremol. Had to use the rings off my old rear discs in conjunction with the JR rings side by side.

I was just about to order the JR ring after work off Ebay so glad uv posted this on here :), i couldnt understand how they wanted £2.75 with delivery & my local Autoparts wanted £20+ VAT for the same part, this must be why :/

£20... gees JR have a hotline to ring for help, not sure if they can sort it for you if you explain, think i saw some more on ebay but im sure they actually stated 7.5mm. oh, Another thing when i ordered from JR i didnt recieve the rings for nearly 2 weeks :/, ive tried to reply to the messages to sort the bad feed back i felt i had to leave but it says member blocked.

Think ill steer clear of the JR ones then, iv not had a chance to whip the old ring off, was planning on doing it tomorrow after work to check the number of teeth etc, what width are the original rings then??

Bridgey, if its of no use to you ill take it off your hands, ill PM you now :)
