Cracked alternator pulley on 172



  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
I have just picked up my 2002 172 from a 36k service and found that they couldnt change my aux belt due to a cracked pulley. I think this will be expensive!!! I rang Renault specialist in Nottingham and they told me that I had to buy alternator and pulley as one part. Is this correct? Also they said this was a common fault across the range!!!Any ideas? I was quoted £315 by a small garage(aux belt, new pulley and 2hrs labour)

well dont drive it in the mean time... coz when the belt comes off the cam belt comes off too 99% of the time

Yeah its a bad design that when the aux belt comes off it snags on the cam belt and takes that with it. Oh the beauty of renault design :dapprove:
