Crap Economy DCI

  Clio DCI
My DCI seems to be using a fair bit of diesel after a recent service.

I have replaced the batter with a heavy duty bosch silver 680 amp type, fuel filter, airfilter and will replace the oil and filter at the weekend.

Since fitting the new fuel filter and airfilter (aftermarket type) the miles per £10 has seem to have dropped from my old 120mile+ to around 70-80mile per £10 fill up.

The car is running fine, but smokey compared with how it was before.

Its a DCI 82hp on a 2002 with 49k on the clock.

I will obviously be doing the oil and alternator belt as soon as i get chance, im just juggling 2 jobs and full time electrician course at the mo so time is rare!!

Although i know the aftermarket filter is a useless mod, i fitted it under the impression that it would make the engine run cleaner (smoke wise) and it was cheaper than a standard filter at £5. I want expecting any performance from it upon fitting as i know its more of a fuel thing with diesels rather than air. I however wasnt expecting any poo MPG performance from it, could this be the problem? Also all the electrics are still connected to the air pipes due to me just removing the filter and attatching the new cone filter.

Any help woould be appreciated

I've got a K&N filter. You have to clean it and re-oil it to keep it working. My economy went down before I learnt that routine.

I think I remember getting 32mpg on a motorway journey (reset at the start and over 280 miles). Average speed was 92mph though..
