Creaking suspension (I think) under braking and acceleration from - 172 cup

Hi

When I pull off or brake to a stop, I get a serious creaking noise. I think that it's something to do with the front suspension and I was advised that I had a little play in the top mounts recently. Could that be making this sort of noise? The car has only done 38k. I'm prepared to replace top mounts and dampers but I'd like to be sure that it will solve things.

I know this is a little vague...
