cup hard starting problem

My brother has just bought a cup about 2 weeks ago and it has developed a hard starting problem. After it has been driven hard for a bit and then turned off, if you go back to it after about 10 mins it seems to struggle in to life. Anyone help?

Mine does the same. It usually fails the first attempt then sorts itself out for the second.

Mine also fails first time when its been warm in my garage over night.

Mines started doing something similar lately - hard to start in the morning and when leaving work in the evening.

Its a bit intermittant though. This morning it was fine (low on fuel as well).

Dodgy batch of Optimax maybe? I use the same garage to fill up each week.

This is a much bigger issue than many people realise. I used to have a jetski - 700cc, twin cylinder 2-stroke. 95bhp. It ran ok on normal unleaded, but as soon as the fuel got a bit old (couple of weeks) it would begin to give trouble (poor starting, didnt want to idle etc.) I asked about this and was told that engines like this need the fuel to be really fresh - apparently petrol loses something when its stored. So you need a garage that has a high turnover of Optimax maybe?

That 700cc jetski could use 10 gallons of fuel in a couple of hours!

Of course this may have nothing to do with starting problems on a Clio Cup.... Ill get my coat.

I have the same problem with my Cup but never had a problem with my old 172 which was filled up at the same garages I use now.

Is it brand new? If so, he shouldnt be driving it hard in the first place! Run the poor thing in!

well fuel does absorb moisture after a while... but I usually find it I try to start up after shutting off for a little while because the fuel had evaporated out of the cylinders so all of the fuel system and injectors need to prime up before the car is going to fire... nothing to worry about...

Mines does the same occasionally - turns over and seems on the verge of catching, but doesnt quite get there. Only happens wwhen its hot and you return to the car within a fairly short period of time. Always starts on the second turn of the key though...

The_Gza, thats the exact same thing that happens with my brothers...

Jim172cup thats the exact same attitude of my brother , have fun with it youve got a warranty and will not be yours in three years... :devilish:

He did actually take it the dealers yesterday but they said that they couldnt find a problem with it.
