cup MOT fiasco continues

Well ive been trying to get the cup through an mot for nearly a week now.
Took it to a local mot place last week and it failed on rear breaks (usual problem). Told the garage about the fact it was a cup and they didnt care. Said they wernt happy with the set up and refused to pass it.
Then onto reno Tunbridge wells. They said the brakes wouldnt be a problem but couldnt get my lowered car on their "crappy old ramp" as the service guy said. No joy then.
Then off to reno near chatham who knew all about the problem. Phew i thought im on to a winner here.
"It will be £45 to have a look at the brakes" Wot i said? i just need a fricking mot...the brakes are fine.
She said i could have it mot'd but it could fail again. :-s

So is there a real problem with my car?
My old MX5 was 11 years old when i had it and it pass all 3 of its mots first time when i owned it.
Ive really had enough of the blue stain now.
Mabye J Townsend could offer adivce?

I took my Cup to Renault Tonbridge when I first found out about the bias valve and said there was no problem with them at all. Weird dude.

  cock mobile.
Mine past first time at a local MOT Centre!

If you're having real problems you could take a drive up here to get it passed!

Mine was on Eibach Pro's though, not lowered like with the H&Rs.

Iain,

I had exactly the same problem. I have replied to the topic you started on Renaultsport.co.uk

http://www.renaultsport.co.uk/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4788&#49560

There seems to be two problems with the Cups, the ones that fail due to having the compensator missing. This is just when the garage doesn't know what they are on about. The second problem being the rear brakes not being efficient enough. This is the problem I had, and it sound like you are having.

Have a look at my thread I started on Renault Sport:

http://www.renaultsport.co.uk/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3151&whichpage=1

J Townsend will only point you in the direction of Renault UK. I even got Fred to speak to him, but didn't really get any answer to my problem.

If you are based near the midlands I can let you know the garage that did mine, as they are obviously aware of the problem, and spoke to VOSA to make sure everything was OK.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

thanks bezza! Looks like youve had the same fun as me. Reno have been totaly sh1t about this too.
I dont go on renosport much!
I still dont understand how putting people in the back will help if there is no compensator?

Nope, I didn't get it either. But it worked, so that that is all I care about.

Renault are absolutely useless, and I have made a promise to myself that I will never go to a Renault dealer again. They do not know what they are on about, and are of no use what so ever.

I've just been to collect my car from Renault Birmingham, while I was chatting to Chris in service we had a look on the RenaultSport site and he spotted your post Iain. He commented on it and said they are aware of it and don't fail the car.

Rich mate....yeah i saw your post last week.
Ive even got a hard copy of the mag but the mot place that failed it are still not passing the car as they believe its still unsafe!?
Also the car wont go on my 2 local renault garages as its too low.
The other reno place i took it 2 wanted to charge me £45 an hour to look at the rear brakes.
Ta iain

Thanks mate...got mine due Nov 25th...will probably try a bit earlier just in case.

I've done 61K on original pads and discs at the back, and that includes every track day I've ever done and there's rust every day on the discs that just won't go  no matter how hard I brake.

I think I better get my calipers cleaned up :dapprove:

You aren't being forced to drive around without an MOT! If you have no MOT then you have no insurance and you are breaking the law!!!

You have to park up your car and only drive it to and from the test center!!!!

That is easier said than done when you rely on your car to get to work and back!

I was going wrong in circles when I had this problem, and it went on for weeks. I can't just not turn up to work for weeks well I wait for Renault to get their act together. I work 30 miles way from where I live.

I've got my MOT on tues with reno. Hope the car passes. I've done 23k and not changed the pads yet. Gonna take a printout of that VOSA article to them 2

Iain - you don't suppose - there might actually be a problem with your rear brakes... bias valve or no bas valve...

Bottom line is that you're breaking the law driving without an MOT. No MOT, no insurance!!!

If you were involved in an accident the police/judge wouldn't accept "sorry my car had no MOT because no test center would pass it..."!!

That's not the point. He was saying that he was forced to drive it as a result, which if he is in a similar situation as I was he would have been else he will lose his job.

If we're going on about law breaking we can go down the route of do you ever do more than 1mph over the speed limit? If you were involved in an accident while speeding the police / judge wouldn't accept any excuses then either.
