Hiya
Ive had my Cup about 5 weeks now.. and am noticing more and more that it doesnt always want to start first time! took 3 attemps yesterday morning, is this common on all clios or just the cup?
Or is it just mine!!!???

Surely there must be something wrong with the car, it should start first time always with out any problem, id say take it back to them and get them to investigate the problem further....................... Keep on at them tell them things aint right! Was it a new car? How old is it?
I know people say its common or normal but theres no way i would have that. You turn the key and the motor should start a simple as that, is it not?
Rob.

I agree both my 172 & 182 start on the first time of turning key whether or not you wait for the light to come on.Quote: Originally posted by Shaz_Cup on 16 September 2004
Hi Rob
Not sure if it does have history of doing it. Im the second owner and have only had it 5 weeks. I didnt buy it from a renault dealer but did take it in about 3 weeks ago for a healthchack, and they said everything was fine.
It doesnt happen everytime.. but seems to be happening more often. It shouldnt take 3 attempts to start any car IMO.
Think i will take it back in.
Cheers.
Hi, im guessing it must be under warranty only being a couple of years old??Quote: Originally posted by Shaz_Cup on 16 September 2004

shaz i just had this with mine last week... every so often it would not start at all, no mechanical noise what so ever when turning the key - started happening once a week, then more and more often.... had to be towed then it would start - went into reno and turned out to be the starter motor.. all fine now
It took me 4 attempts at lunchtime! how embarrasing. Its the only gripe i have with the car... other than that its spot on! Hope you have fun with yours, once you get it sorted. Gonna take mine back in and get starter motor looked at!Quote: Originally posted by Little Newms on 17 September 2004

I had exactly the same problem little newms however its the aa bloke thats dodgy, they dont know a thing a bout renault sports. If you have the rac call them out, its just a bolt that has come loose near the starter motor, the rac guy fixed a new bolt there for me and no problems.
I also had the starting problem where you get nothing, and then come back a few hours later and it starts. I just got used it, couldnt be bothered to keep taking it to the dealers with no result.
I dont know what to do for the best, some people say its normal on all clios some say take in to the dealers!!!!
arghhhhh!!!![]()

2 - the wire going to the starter motors on 172 cups tend to come loose or break due to the position of the wiring loom and the movement of the engine under acceleration. Get it re-attached are tighten the connection up.
3 - sort these out and it will be 100 % perfect !!

when it doesnt start will it just keep cranking on the starter but wont fire up or does it try but cut out straight away? is it engine tempurature related? eg-first thing in the morning or doesnt matter, any temp. is it atmospheric temp related? eg-worse on cold or hot days
I had both these go at the same time.. i dont think her Top Dead Center sensor has gone unless she is getting a judderly ride under acceleration... i think its just her starter motor or the wires.. I had the starter motor and TDC sensor replaced and all fine........................ until my exhaust literally fell off!Quote: Originally posted by j3ned on 17 September 2004
